Looking at wheel choices, educate me please

I'm considering my options for wheels and I've read quite a few threads. Lots of good info, but I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. I want either a basket weave style wheel or something like the Works VS-XX. I'm okay with 17 or 18" and even okay with a mild amount of wheel gap. What I'm not okay with is negative camber. I just don't like the way it looks. Also not interested in stretching tires. I will replace my stock suspension eventually with at most a 1" drop. Not looking to be in the weeds. I want the car to be just as streetable as it is now on the stock S Lites.

So with all that in mind, what are the limits width wise? 7.5? 8.0? How wide can I go without having to get into negative camber and/or major suspension mods?

It sounds like you aren't willing to do much work to get a wheel to fit. So really a 7" rim just like stock would probably be best. Wider wheels means more camber/stretch/etc.

Correct. I don't want to do much to the car since I like it the way it is. So 7" is the max? How much would it take to fit 7.5 or 8.0" wheels?

Actually, let me come at this from another angle. I really don't know what kind of work it takes but this is the look I'm after. Can someone tell me what it is I would need to do to achieve this:

Well my setup is the equivalent of your s lites with a 13mm spacer, and just eyeballing it, that looks to poke about 10mm more than mine do. You're going to want something that pokes at least 20mm more than your wheels now, not to mention that car is lowered too. Use the tire rim calculator in the tools section to see what would poke that much. Your wheels right now are 7" wide with 48 offset I believe.

Hmm that's my car

It's lowered on Tein S-tech springs, probably 1.2-1.5" drop. Wheels were 17x8.5 with a +30 offset on 205/45/17 tires so it's kind of stretched. I don't run them anymore, I'm on 17x7 now with 215/45/17 tires.

Well, I dig it. Nice job. I didn't see how stretched the tires were in the pic, but I can imagine at 8.5 they were. What wheels are you running now? Same suspension setup?

Thanks!

I'm running OZ Allegerita. I wanted something a lot lighter. I didn't like how those wheels made my car feel heavy.

It's still on the same suspension set up, but I'll be moving onto coil overs in the near future.

Coil overs for more drop? More adjustability? Not sure of the advantages.

As for your old wheels, did you have rubbing issues at that wide of a wheel? I don't see a lot of wheels that size in anything under 8" wide. Which means I'd probably need to have them custom built for 7-7.5 and I'm not sure I want to go that far.

A little bit more drop, not much; nothing slammed or anything like that.

You can find some Work VSXX in 7.5 (almost purchased a used set), but it's one of those things where you just run into them. Try Honda Fit forums to find some wheels as well; they share similar bolt pattern and most offset with our MINIs.

But yes, on 8.5 I would rub on the rear plastic if I had passengers, also if I hit a hard bump.
