New CMS - Mini Connect with Nav keeps rebooting

I'm new to the forum and a first time Mini owner. I just purchased a new Countryman S. On the drive home the Connect with Nav system kept rebooting every 5 to 10 minutes. During the reboots the radio shuts down, screen goes blank and the Mini logo appears before the system comes back on. The reboots are still happening whenever I drive and it's a bit frustrating especially with a brand new car.

I have a visit to the dealer scheduled for early in the week.

Just curious, has anyone else experienced this?
is there something I can do to remedy the issue or I'm I better off just waiting for the dealer to fix it?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I have not heard of the NAV rebooting like that. Sounds like the dealership is your best bet.

My uneducated guess is that they need to setup the NAV. Or it is somehow still in transport mode from the factory. Just for kicks, in the glovebox or with paperwork at delivery of your Countryman there is a white sheet of paper with "BMW Navigation Map Certificate" at the top with the Release Code to unlock your maps. I would try that code.

OR
Don't ask me why but searching the forums I saw that RESELECTING the language to English stopped the crashes:
Setting the language
1. "Settings"
2. "Language/Units"
3. "Language:"
4. Select the desired language.

The dealership should have entered that and prep your CM. Let's us know what the dealer says.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I actually had the nav activation code, but the nav would not take the code. It kept returning to the "please enter activation code prompt" If say I went back to Home and came back and reselected Navigation it would mysteriously work, showing my location on a map before randomly rebooting.

I tried reselecting the language to English, but that did not seem to help. I dropped the car off with the dealer and they let me know that a new radio is on order from Germany to replace the defective one. I'm optimistic that replacing the radio / nav system should fix this. I will provide an update as soon as I can.

Finally an update!

I got my car back after driving a loaner Paceman for the last couple of weeks. The dealer ended up replacing the radio / nav. Ordering the part from Germany was the reason for the long wait.

While the car was at the dealership I had them install LED DRLs. Gotta love the halos!

I will share some pictures in the Official Cosmic Blue thread in the next couple of days.

So after driving around for less than a week the issue with the radio display started all over again - reboots every 5 to 10 minutes during a drive... Argghhhh!! I just want this thing to work since I love the car.

Anyway, the countryman is back at the dealership. Per the dealership they have had about 7 similar cases - all 2014 countryman with nav models. (not sure if all S or a mix with non S). In about half the cars the issue is recurring despite swapping out the radios and batteries.

Apparently other dealers are reporting similar issues. I was told that BMW is going to issue a software update for the radio nav system, and that an alternative is reverting back to the software that the 2013 models with nav have.

The wait continues as I roll around in a paceman S.

I picked up my car today. The dealer said the reverted back to the 2013 countryman software which resolved the issue in my car and 4 other cars.

I was just glad to drive it again. So far so good and I hope it stays that way.
