So just finished catless DP, intercooler and stage 3 tune. I have an Invidia DP back exhaust that was perfect with the stock DP but is a little too loud for me with no cat. Which exhausts are known for being a little more on the quiet side? Thanks.

Too loud Is it raspy, droning or Db's to much inside the cabin? At highways speeds, WOT...

You may have to add a resonator but it would involve hacking up your Invidia...

It's kind of everything, haha. Sounds really good don't get me wrong, but I'm worried about getting pulled over with it. About 2500-2700rpm is very loud, like echoing off buildings and rattling the interior trim...

The shipping is killer from Taiwan to America for the iPE, you're better off asking BT to order you an Akra

I have a VIP DP back and an Akrapovic DP. You are going to get drone. You carless will be louder. Cause and effect. You had stock DP... no drone. Catless... drone. Figure it out.

The only exhaust that I've consistently heard for having no drone is the Akro. The other one is the factory JCW exhaust, the version with the large resonator (not the JCW kit with the etched tips). I'm pretty happy with my fJCW, but I'm running a stock cat.

The other option would be to try an aftermarket catted dp.

None of these options are cheap, your best bet may be to put the factory dp back on it if you were really happy with the exhaust before.

Have fun,
Mike

I experimented with a catless DP. At that time I had already cut out the resonator and the 2nd cat, so I only had the factory S muffler. It lasted a day before I took it back off. I didn't want to go WOT it was so loud (at least for me).

I now have the Arkapovic with the factory DP and it definitely subdues things. In fact the "pop and burble" when in sport mode is now barely audible which I'm really happy about. The "pop and burble" is silly.

I too think a resonator could help out. Wouldn't be very pricey. I have the small version from a 2013 S if you're interested.

Thanks for the tips guys. Guess I'll save up for the Akrapovic as listening to videos online it does sound good. Plus the Akra is the exhaust I wanted originally, but I got the Invidia used for cheap.

I knew it was going to be louder, but I never expected it to be this loud. It's worse than my truck which is straight piped! I guess the biggest problem is the drone, if I could dampen that then driving around town wouldn't be too bad. Maybe I'll try adding a resonator to the Invidia...

Maybe try a CNT Racing Downpipe. It is catless with a resonator. Not sure if it will help or not.

Hmm the invidia already has a resonator installed and the muffler is a decent size. You could try swapping the muffler to something like a Magnaflow (that's what I had) to see if it improves. I had a catless downpipe to 3" DDMWorks exhaust that had a Magnaflow muffler. I personally never thought it was too loud or drony, but everyone has their own perception of things. It was totally boss at WOT

The root of your problem here is the catless downpipe. Just doing that cranks the volume way up. You can spend many hours and many hundreds of dollars playing with different exhausts but gees hope you have lots of money! I would just deal with it and adapt your driving style around town or other sensitive areas. But by all means put the pedal on the floor when you can

Well now that I have had it a few days the sound is good. I really like it. I am able to keep it pretty quiet by accelerating at a certain speed. The only thing that is killing me is the drone at 2500-2700rpm. Still rattles everything in the car. I'm going to get the Akrapovic and see if it helps. It's the exhaust I wanted anyway. If it doesn't help I'll just live with it. I'm getting more used to it so it's starting to not annoy me as much

I 'hear' that the stock exhaust is good with a catless DP. I haven't heard the same thing about a stock exhaust w/ things cut out of it in addition to the catless DP.

a hi flow cat down pipe would be help with the sound, but with our experience running the stock box and de cat is perfect imo

Does anyone know the difference between the 2 Akrapovic systems? They have the "me-min/ti/1h" and "me-min/ss/2h"...

I believe the "SS/2H" is EC approved.

I noticed it says "EC exhaust for the updated MINI". I wonder if that means the ti/1h was approved for the N14 but not the N18, but the ss/2h is good for the N18. I did notice the pictures show the ti/1h on a 07-10, and the ss/2h is on a 11+...

Looking at the EC certs, the muffler sizes are slightly different (probably to meet newer regulations). I believe that in the US they only import one version, on reseller websites they never ask or let you select a version. I'll have to look on the engraving to see which version I have.

OK, so most likely everyone has the ss/2h now. That's always confused me, thanks for the info! Did you ever test out the Akra with a catless DP?

Well I installed my Akrapovic today, purchased it from Battle Tuning. It is perfect! It's slightly louder than the Invidia with a stock DP, but so much more quiet than the Invidia without one. Absolutely pleased with this exhaust.
