Stock Problems "Wiki" Database

I am trying to figure out how much it is going to cost me to keep my R56 on the road for the next 6-7 years.

I'm hoping this exists somewhere but I haven't been able to find it... Seems like there should be one place where we can log and share all of the issues we have with the stock systems on our R56's in an orderly manner.

Something like this:
=================================
Issue: Auxiliary Water Pump

Affected Vehicles: All R56

Symptoms: Car goes up in flames 5-20 minutes after engine is turned off

Cause: Overheating of some wire associated with the secondary water pump that cools the turbo after the engine is shut off.

Effect: Destroyed vehicle

Responsibility: Replaced at no charge by MINI under recall

Correction: Replace auxiliary water pump

Repair Instructions: None - Recall

Cost: None - Recall

Avoidance/Risk Mitigation: Don't sit in vehicle after shutting off engine
===========================================

Here is my current one:
===========================================
Issue: Failed Thermostat?

Affected Vehicles: 2009 R56 S 70K,

Symptoms: Constant yellow check-engine light, Error code P0599

Cause: ??

Effect: High coolant temp?

Responsibility: Covered under factory warranty? Covered under extended warranty?

Correction: Replace thermostat? Thermostat housing is known for cracking and leaking coolant; replace it at the same time.

Cost: Dealer: $450-650, Shop: $250-$450?, DIY: Thermostat: $35-55, Housing: $100-150, 3-6 hours

Repair Instructions: Link here

Avoidance/Risk Mitigation: Pray?
============================================

Other major repairs that might be suitable for this list (because I am afraid of them): timing chain and tensioner, high pressure fuel pump (HPFP), severe carbon build-up on valves, etc, etc,....

I don't really know how to make this thing a living document that everyone can add to but I think it could be really useful if we could do that.

I don't know of an organized database like this, but I think this is a sweet idea, gotta give some thought to how we could accomplish it. I feel like there is enough info floating around this site that it could be accomplished pretty quick and the end result would rock, and there are a few things I'd like to contribute/see on there.

Great idea, but someone would have to think of the platform on which we could do this...

Google has shareable docs would work for what you are talking about.

I work for a company who builds websites and webapps. I am actually the system admin. We use a software called confluence for our "wiki". I think it would be possible to find an open source wiki and host it on the cloud somewhere for pretty cheap. That would be the ideal solution!

EDIT: like this one: http://twiki.org

A wiki is a sweet idea for that! Downright perfect actually. I wonder if that is something we could get them to integrate here or if we would have to do it elsewhere?

Thanks for your interest in this idea. I'm not much of a computer guy, how do we make this happen? Do any of you know how to get in touch with the site administrator?

Lol well I have been on this forum and owned my mini for about a week now, so I have no clue as far as getting in touch with someone! But I am technical, so if once someone can get in touch with someone, I can explain in more detail what we can/should do with standing up a wiki site!
