Mini replaced my stereo - now ipod quality is poor?

I have an R56 2011. The display on my HK stereo started going crazy so I took it in. They replaced it for free (there is a known issue with at least the 2011 Harmon Kardons). The problem is that since the replacement, music from my iphone is slightly quieter than the radio (used to be louder) and the quality isn't as good.

Anyone else have this problem or know what the deal is?

Make sure the AUX volume setting in the headunit is turned up. This could also be your quality issue (it makes for a poor signal-to-noise ratio). Turn the AUX volume up and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the reply! I got a text back from the shop and they said to try the same thing. I cranked the AUX volume all the way up (I think it only goes to 6 or 8 or something). I also re-adjusted my bass and treble settings on the overall stereo. Made the radio sound even better. It didn't really help my AUX that much at all. Now the difference seems bigger.

Coincidentally, a Queen song came on the radio right after I increased the AUX volume. I flipped back and forth between it and the same song in my iPhone library. Huge difference...the radio version was much more clear/sharp in the treble and much more pronounced in the bass.

Other thoughts?

Hmmm. Did adjusting the AUX volume up make the AUX louder than the radio? Also, keep in mind that the Bass/Treble/etc settings are source-specific for most MINIs - i.e. if you change them for the radio it won't change them for the AUX.

It does sound like something else is going on though. Double-check your AUX input cord. If you are using the headphone output, make sure the volume on your iPhone is at ~85%, and make sure you don't have a case on the iPhone that is interfering with getting the headphone jack all the way inserted.

Let me know where you land.

Radio is still louder than AUX. I checked the bass/treble settings while the iphone was playing at the settings are correct (same as radio).

I am not using the headphone jack. I have the dual AUX/USB chord that goes to a 32 pin for Apple products that came with the MINI. From there I have a 32 pin to lightning converter chord for my iPhone 5s.

Did the AUX get louder at all? Try using the headphone jack to see if you get different results. Isolate the issue first, then we can try to figure out what it is.

You are a genius. I did not notice a difference between when the AUX was all the way down and all thew way up. Then I realized that I had adjusted the AUX when the iPhone was not connected. Checking the AUX with the iPhone, it was still all the way down (I previously checked the treble/bass settings for both but not the AUX volume). Turned up the right one. Problem solved.

Volume and quality are back to normal. Thanks for your help!!!
