Navigation & Audio Upgrading Visual Boost with HK
Upgrading Nav with HK help/advice needed please
Hi Guys
Ive just bought a 2012 R55 which has the sat Nav, and the Harmon Kardon speakers installed.
I would like to upgrade my speakers, add my DLS A7 amp over this standard setup.
My questions are:
How is the stock unit connected to the amp? What type of connectors?
Can I use the original stereo unit be used (as a good source) to run the DLS amp or would I be best to install my Alpine head unit parallel with the stock unit?
The kit I currently have waiting to be installed is:
Alpine BT187 (i think!!)
DLS A7 5 channel amp (used active)
Boston 6.5 Pro comps (old school but awesome sound)
TDX12 Sub
Thanks guys

Visual Boost isn't available as a option here in North America, and we are unfamiliar with the "Media Pack" UK option. I suggest that you change your title and question to "Upgrading Nav with HK" (you may have to start a new thread if the forum doesn't allow updating the title).
Using an aftermarket head unit (the Alpine) is problematic because your Nav display and car computer are integrated with the factory stereo. You'd have to leave the existing headunit connected and install the Alpine in parallel.
So that leaves upgrading or augmenting the HK amp. There are some threads on the topic. You might start with the information in this thread:

I think I would be best to install the Alpine unit to run seperately from the stock Nav unit, as I found out today its all linked and controlled by optical cables, so this would totally mess the computer up I would imagine.
However, i wonder if it is possible to use that feed from the stock stereo into a signal processor or something? Anyone know how its connected and how its all works please?
Thanks
