2010 Clubman brakes question
2010 Clubman brakes question
At around 100,000 miles, the brake fluid service light came on. I asked two reputable mechanics if it needed to be serviced. Each one said that if the fluid is clean & clear, leave it alone - it is, so I did leave it alone. Now, at 103,000, the brake service light is on - fluid reservoir is full, and brakes work fine... Please advise....thanks...
It could be the cbs system asking for someone to do something, or one of the brake pad wear sensors is tripped. You need to read the manuals to see what the car is trying to tell you. But really, how hard is it to pull the wheels and have a look? Or just look...
Change the fluid. It absorbs moisture over time. This leads to a lower boiling point.
Another reason being the fact that the moisture corrodes caliper pistons. It is cheaper to change the fluid rather than corroded calipers.

Best to change it every 2-3 years. You can't necessarily tell that it is not contaminated just because it looks clear. (Though if it is black and nasty looking, it definitely needed changing a while ago!!)
