I just bought a 2012 JCW (for me) and a 2013 JCW (for my wife)..

The 2012 is N14 and 2013 is N18.. ok now that that is out of the way..

I have a question about the interior color LED lighting.. my wife's 2013 has a color LED light under the climate control lighting up the cubby and cup holders.

My question is, does my 2012 have this light? either it doesn't or it is busted..

I know the 08 11 13 do so sounds like yours is toggled off, open manual and
find instructions cause it can be turned off all together.

 

I'm reading through this and can't seem to find anything... page 83 has 3 bullets for ambient lights..

pg 83 , either you have ALL your lamps turned off inside or your intensity is turned down on ambient. Play with it, you'll get it.

 

all the other lights work, and i get the fading in and out and color changing, I just dont have a light in the cubby lighting up the cup holders and such.. my wife's car has a light in the cubby that lights up the cubby and cup holders.. the lights in the ceiling do an ok job at lighting the console area, but it looks so much better when the cubby and cup holders are lit up

So I presume mine is busted and that I am supposed to have a light...

 

I'm not sure my 13 has any lighting there and it's too cold to run and check, I don't recall any colors there

 

The 2013 has the interior center cup holder / storage LED that matches the rest of the interior color changing (mood) leds. Think it was 3/2012+ for the R56 . The wire harness is different so you think you cannot ad this to a pre 3/2012.

ok my 2013 built jan 2013 has the color lighting my cup area.

My car was made Dec 2011.. anyone with a build date of this or earlier have the mood lighting for the cupholders/cubby area?

I took my car to the dealership and they couldn't tell me if I was supposed to have the light or not. They want to charge me $210 to take apart the center console to find out if it does. They did tell me I had the lighting package. I think that is BS. They dealership should be able to tell me if my car is supposed to have that and if so fix it. If I am missing parts, sure I can pay for those, but to tell me $210 to find out, BS.

 

Like I posted dependent on the model it looks like around 3/2012 on they had the factory cup holder area led, i think the R58 models had them a little earlier.

If you are suppose to have the little LED light there and someone took it out there will be a little hole there. Look under there near the console were the led is. If there is no led and no hole , then you don't have it.

 

So my 2012 MINI JCW (12/2011 production date) has the hole there.. I thought it might have been the temp sensor or something but based on what you said, its for the LED. With that said, my MINI is an earlier production model then you suggested as the date for MINI adding this light...

 

I am thinking you must have not had it from the factory as I show on the ETK for 3/2012+ again.

All I can think of is that since you are very close to the transition date you might have gotten the panel with the hole but no light. I have driven early 2012 that don't have it and they were flush right there, then 2013's have it. I doubt someone before removed it. But you could snap out that bottom panel and see if there is a two pol plug in that locations for Led Module For Center Console Part #63319277228 to connect to but I doubt its there. That's a long shot.
