R56 0-60 2nd gear starts
0-60 2nd gear starts
I've tried a 0-60 test a few times and even w/ the mods to my Mini I can't get in the low 6s. Frustrating. I know drag racing isn't a Minis purpose and I don't plan to keep trying to better my best and destroy the clutch, etc. But I get so little out of 1st it seems a 2nd gear start may give better result
thanks,
Terry

Nope , if anything easing it out too slowly to try and keep everything in contact. !st just runs out sooo fast. I used to race Motocross and we all did 2nd gear starts.
The mini clutch is so undersized, and $$$$ at about $1800-2000 (6-8 hrs shop time for a pro)....I would think twice about slipping the clutch enough to do a 2nd gear start.....might get very $$$
My thoughts exactly Zippy. The Coop isn't a dragster. If I wanted one I would have dropped $60K on a Shelby Mustang Cobra so I could shred my tires and go 0-60 in 4 sec. A prospect with limited entertainment value compared to the Mini's funbag, personality too
! You'll get a lot more attention with a Mini too, like it or no. But you know that already. I'm just afraid development is going to kill our cool with these oversized things they're making , I deign to honor with the name Mini, but that could be a whole nother thread
Anyway, a announcement: I hereby renounce my career in drag racing.

0-60 in FWD turbo cars are a joke, nothing but wheel spin. If you're not wheel spinning then I'd be concerned unless you're running an LSD. 1/4mi and trap speed would be a better determination

I presume you have the continental tires and no LSD? That's the problem right there. A good set of Dunlop direzza Z1 or Bridestone R01 tires will make a massive difference in the cars dynamics.
Again as others have said, straight line grip is such a difficult battle to win with high torque FWD

I think you'll get your best times by starting in first. Quick shift to second before you bang off the rev limiter in first. just get the car rolling.
Also, to echo what was said above, there's no quicker way to break parts than to drag race. It puts an Ike Turner beating on the car.

Spinning the stock OEM tire on a R56S is not hard even with an automatic doing holeshots or in tight turn power outs. A really good set of tires with a little extra rubber on the ground makes a night and day difference.
thread jack, sort of.
Sorry for the late chime in, but, it's even more of a battle in a RWD mid size truck with 300ft lbs torque.
My previous vehicle was a 2000 Dakota SLT V8 with some mods. I miss the truck (Amber, she was amber fire with a pearl clear coat, very beautiful truck). I swear if it didn't have LSD and I mashed on the gas the tires would spin and the truck probably wouldn't move. I could do the most awesome brake stands, and yes both tires would spin. I miss that truck. Had to total it because the salvage payment wouldn't cover the damage.
But don't under estimate the Gen II v8 Dakotas, or the R/Ts. The 4 door 4x4 runs a 15.4 sec 1/4 mile and get decent power gains with your basic bolt on mods and a tuner. They are pretty easy to get into the high 14's. I would like to have my MINI and another Dakota. Despite the reputation mine was sold, had 130k on the clock and only issues were power steering pump replaced, 2 lower ball joints, exhaust manifold gasket and crank shaft sensor (which I think was from the tuner initially). Not to bad for what it was. And it handled better than you would think. The R/Ts handled like no other stock truck, better than most cars. To bad they never did a Dakota R/T with a Hemi. That would be a sweet ride.
Mine looked a lot like this one.
Mine was an SLT v8 with stock rims.
Recently I've been using the P3Cars gauge (http://www.p3cars.com/mini-r55-r56-r57-r58-r59/) to log 0-60 times (data from the ODB2 port). Usually I do this without launching and consistently get between 6.0 sec and 6.1 sec. Tonight I did a mild launched with traction control on and achieved 5.51 sec (see picture).
My question is: how accurate are these measurements? I would love to get a Vbox Sport to compare but don't really want to spend $500.
