The dreaded moment when your odometer hits 6 digits

Bittersweet day for me when I finally hit 100k on my 06 r53. It feels like both an accomplishment and like my wallet is gonna start opening up and pouring into parts.

So I want to do a good service to keep it in tip top shape, I've heard that minis service is way overpriced and you can essentially do most things their gonna do in the garage. Plus I don't like other people having a wrench near my car and touching my mods.

I was making a list of things to do to keep it fresh

Clean and oil my air filter

Replace plugs, and upgrade to ngk iridium ix

Change oil, I use royal purple and it hold up better than castrol but I was thinking of looking at the max oil additive.

Obviously replace oil filter

Flush coolant and put new in

Brake pad and rotors, which is should have done a while ago and I'm thinking about getting slotted rotors

I use Lucas oil upper cylinder cleaner every fill up because I can't buy premium gas because at $8 an hour and highschool my wallets a bit slim, I priced it out and since I get a discount on the cleaner I pay about 6 dollars less

Serpentine belt

New/ fixed tensioner, I want to just replace the bushings with urethane and add the alta stop, I have heard mixed reviews about Alta's tensioner because it's not self adjusting, so at certain points it could be too loose or too tight

Does anyone know of any other things I should do?

I've heard changing supercharger oil brake fluid and tranny fluid, but those sound difficult and not necessary, but if it is a good idea to do so then I will

Sorry for the long post!

Thanks a million,
Ben

Replace the entire tensioner. Amazon has the OEM unit for 79$. Do the serpentine belt like you stated. While your in there consider replacing the crank dampener with an ATI or fluid gel version as the stock unit is rubber and prone to failure. Replace the o ring on the crank position sensor as it tends to leak. Do the transmission fluid change, it's really pretty easy. Your lower control arm bushings are most likely toast by now. That is a tougher job unless you have a lift or are comfortable with dropping the front subframe. You can buy lca bushings pre pressed in from way motor works which will make the job 100x easier.

Would it be worth it to have mini, or the local shop that I have had do some of my perforce installs, for the harder stuff like the bushings? That way I know it'd get done and done right. And how about the o-ring and dampener? I haven't ever gone that far into the engine, I've only done ignition, suspension, handling, intake and exhaust

I celebrated when I hit 6 digits on my odometer. No idea why someone would dread that.

The O ring is just a few dollars worth.. Like 4 or 5, the problem is getting to it, service mode or strap the engine and pull it back a bit taking the lower engine mount off if you don't feel like taking the front of the car apart, but if you are going to do the SC oil change it's just easier to put it in service mode, if you are doing the SC oil change the water pump $100.00 or so, change the gaskets as needed. The CP sensor will be right there too

Reminds me of the Toyoda commercial...
jump up and say "Oh what a feeling!!".
Not sure WHY one would dread 100,000
Well cared for...you still have another 100,000 to go.....
Mini does not specifiy any unique 100,000 mile MX...
If you follow the inspection 1/inspection 2 and monthly change items (oil/coolant/braked fluids)...nothing is "special" about 100,000
At some point a few auto makes said THEIR cars needed some items done at 100,000...MINI has NEVER SAID THIS!!

haha yeah i know it really isnt a big deal, but my first car, the time and money ive out into it, it felt like a big deal lol. And talking to a friend who owns a performance shop was saying how its a good idea to bring it in and get a thorough tune up and inspection. I take good care of it, i only use the best fluids, premium gas, all the fun stuff. But i race so theres a bit more ware and tear thab normal.

And on thr point og mini not having a special 100k service....Ive read some stuff, not saying i believe it, about how mini traps you into situations where you have to pay hefty repair bills and mmakes them rich. for example, mini does not sell its own surpercharger oil, and doesnt say anywhere that it could be done at some point, however they do sell an assembled, pre oiled 2000 dollar replacement. the fact that they set their service intervals at 15k. Ive always heard that its good, even with synthetics, to change the oil at least every 5. Finally, the belt pensioner and tensioner stop. I doubt it took too long for the issue of the bushings wearing out and the oem stop fails, so by 06, the should have fixed the issue, and could do so easily.

AGAIN THESE ARE NOT MY OPINIONS, THESE ARE FROM THIGS IVE READ AND WHAT OTHERS SAY

The inspection 1 + 2 (Every 30,000 miles you alternate), all of those parts are looked at...if you fo a through job...
I do 7500/6 month mile oil changes.... But folks who test say 15,000-25,000 is ok with true long life oils...no racing/tracking though. Do what you feel you need to do.
Often the overlooked parts when folks do oil changes only cause issues....coolant, brake fluid,etc...

I grew up when 80k meant death and 100k was unobtainable. These days, as with my son, he would buy a car with 100k and keep it for a few years then get another......if he liked the style and performance. And if the new cars price was too high for him. Maintenance and repairs would be less than the price differential between new and used.

I'm at 138,XXX and I just did a track day in September Hell, I bought my R53 JCW with 101k on it!

At some point this year I'll get the SC rebuilt and some other minor things but I'm still loving it. Still way cheaper than buying a new car!

Don't worry about it at all. I would love to have only a 100K MINI again. Change the oil every 5K, change your bushings and start listening to your throwout bearing. You can't take it with you when you die. 323,000 miles today. Enjoy it NOW.
