R50/53 MINI's in the cold
MINI's in the cold
do our cars not like the cold so much as others?
it seems like my car dosnt like it when its cold out untill it warms up then its ok.
but on warmer days it gives me no fuss from a "cold" start
water temp gauge said it was 10*F and air temp had to be the same if not colder.

Not sure what you mean....what is it doing?
My car starts right up in the cold...was 6° last night when i left work...shifts fine...folks using alternate gear oils sometimes complain...and drives fine...I go gently till the oil temp+coolant temp are normal, and oil psi is not high from being thick....than if I get my foot into it...it pulls like heck...better than a warm day actually.

just rough idle that's all it will purr like a kitten then have a hiccup continue just fine then another hiccup it will do this until the engine is up to like 60* then just go away.
and its not the lopy idle as if i had a cam in it this is different.

Back in my pre-tune days I would sometimes get a start and instant stall..sometimes a near rumblely lower rpm start, then the stall...then fine on the second try....I am guessing the tune eliminated it cause it took into account e-10...was tuned e10 93 octane...
Tried fresh plugs, coil cleaning and wires...ultimately the custom tune eradicated the issue which seemed to happen in fall and spring....

How many miles you up to? Wondering if it is either related to higher miles or a slow to respond o2 sensor...have head that ethanol burns "cooler" on startup, so it can sometimes make the computer do odd things cause the temps don't quite match what is expected for a open loop start up operation ...never really seen proof beyond any issues I attributed to fuel disappeared with the custom tune.
I thought in your initsl post you might have been talking of a slow clutch or hard shifting....

im at 141K miles original O2 sesnors still i have two brand new ones siting on my desk just waiting to put it in a header when i install it.
it does appear that the wave it makes form 0v to 1v is slow so i think they may be on their way out.
EDIT: im confident when i get all the parts in and go and get a tune everything will work great with no issues.

Hmm...Mine starts and runs fine up to around -20F. The seats are cold and it takes what seems like forever to warm up but it does rather quickly. I just wish I could find someone that would install an autostart. Installers are scared of the Minis or something.

only issue i have is my battery, i do have a variation in my rpm, but it doesnt sputter, itll vary 100-200 rpm idling it was also -4 this morning =) eng temp never got higher than 185, but it pulled like a frieght train
Same here, same car. My 06 JCW fires right up in the brutal cold. It's due for an inspection II soon as well..
