Looking at pics of other OEM engine mounts, and looking at mine, I'm thinking mine has lost its fluid, prob before I got the car?

Anyway, instead of $70 or so for a new one, can I "cheap out" and just get this deal (see link) http://www.ebay.com/itm/321225929294...84.m1438.l2649

I'm trying to reduce engine rocking enough to put my lower bracing back in, bc as of now the Cat is hitting the brace under full throttle (new exhaust system).

I already bought the powerflex gearbox mount, and have an engine damper installed on the block (old type), but just that damper is not cutting it right now.

 

Supplement= addition....not replacement....
It looks to be the knockoff of the same powerflex bushing parts...
Think it is for a 02-04...the rubber mount wears...shrinks...this goes over it to tighten it up...different part on the 2005+ cars...it is an oil filled balloon.... With a bolt through it...with no oil...nothing will tighten it up...just flopping around.

 

Look again at the last pic in the series. It covers the whole mount. Powerflex doesn't make this one at all, but do make the earlier type inserts of course.

 

Probably because it's not worth it. Looking at it makes me think it doesn't make much difference. The bracket on the engine mount sits on the rectangular section, if that bushing isn't really tight between the bracket and the mount, the difference will be minimal. If you really want to test this bushing, I'd do it with a new mount. Putting it on a busted mount won't really solve the problem.

 

Sounds good. New engine mount it is. Anyone have a best price recommendation? Found some on eBay for like $70 or so.

Don't go with stock, go with vibratronics if you can afford it. Stock ones leak and are sloppy.

 

I'd love a VT one, but 300 smackers is just so much for an engine mount of all things :-P

I have a damper on the engine already, was considering adding an additional tsw to my setup... Dual dampers with a powerflex bushing on th gear box side, then maybe the superpro inserts for the lower mount.

 

If black tar like goo has leaked out, then the mount is dead. $70 - $80 is about the going rate these days. Sometimes the bolt is not included.

 

Bought the pad. Going to see if the mount is good when I put the pad on. Will report its effects.

 

That will just make more racket and will progressively make your existing mount worsen....That gizmo is made from hard poly....so something is gonna have to give and it will be your already compromised engine mount.

The OEM one lasted how long ? How many miles ? Just get a new one....my 2 cents.


Then get a TSW damper for the right side and a yellow Powerflex poly bushing insert for the trans mount on the drivers side....( give that insert about 600 miles to settle in before NVH disappears..)

 

Do I need a new bolt if I buy a new mount? Does the old one get ruined or something?

 

It depends on where you live. I re used it once, but it is an e12 - external torx. I stripped it last time, and it took hours to drill it out. I have to get a stainless steel one, and put anti seize on it. Allen key or regular hex head is preferable.

 

The black gunk that comes out tends to corrode the bolt...and sometimes sieze it...so having a $1.50 bolt from mini is cheap insurance if you destroy it getting it out...on my last one...I needed the bolt.

 

More like $10 at the dealer, but yes, better have one handy.

 

Get a new dealer.... List is $2.17 on realoem.com.....got it for $1.50 after my discount.....

 

I mean, seems like a lot of work to replace something that really is just a stick that wiggles with a base under it..?.

With the poly pad the engine mount is sitting on the pad mostly, seems like it should be just as good as a "new" mount. Should be fine with the other mount upgrades I'm doing... Besides, I'm still holding out for a used VT engine mount to come up!

 

Umm. No. I don't think it will be the same. I agree it fixes the height issue. It cannot fix the fact that the liquid - that ran out - was part of the vibration dampening, and helps limit motion of the mount. Changing the oem mount every 18 months or so is the price for the design constraints. Yeah my dealer was $10, but they are open till 7 pm, and on Saturdays until 3 pm for parts.

 

Gah! alright. You've talked me into it! I'll buy the new stupid mount! Lol. I'm sure this will be another one of those things that's supposed to be straight forward, but will take all damn day. I'll take pics of the new stuff when it all goes in.

 

Ain't that the truth…

while bleeding the coolant, i dropped the 5.5mm bolt, (by the the thermostat) after 4 hour's looking for the damm thing I gave up and drank.. Next day, took me two mins to find it..

 

Its not that bad. The only part that was a bit of a pain was trying to re align the engine when I was putting everything back together. I actually ended up doing it without taking the wheel liner off. You just need an extension thats long enough and your set.

 

I paid $180 and had a shop install my last one....the fact they did it in about 15 minutes...even with the siezed bolt made me feel bad...but air-tools DO speed things up!!

 

After you've loosened the nut, Jack the engine above the bolt (With wood, under the sump) the other mounts can take it..
pull the old one, drop in the new one, shouldn't take more than 20 mins..

The torque is 70 Nano Webber's, i'm a music guy whadayawant? ")

 

Hopefully you get it in before any longterm dammage was done...i'm thinking that extra stabilizer might have paid for itself in prevented gearbox/clutch issues...but the tranny mount is likely worn bad from excess may movement.
Suggestion...
Save the old one...clean it out...and fill it with hotset urethane windshield adhesive... Sounds crazy...back in the pre TSW days...a few folks expermented with this...got the idea from Honda folks I think.....the TSW one is mostly a highly refined version of this idea...
There were a few threads on folks trying it....not sure how they turned out..I forget...but for some folks...you could experiment... And have some fun...have it ready for the next failure....

 

has anyone ever replaced this mount with a couple of hockey pucks before? i did it on my jetta way back when and the just replacing one mount out of the three; the results were quite amazing.
