Brake and Lift lights on

2012 Mini Cooper S now has lift light come on when start then brake stays on.
Manual says electrical problem...but looks also like brake pads/sensors all around should be changed? Car has 30k on it so probably time?
After I put the pads/sensors do I need to clear for lights to go out? Also am hearing on this forum other with the same and it was electrical..if so is it just to have dealer code it?
Thanks for any help,
Topform

Same thing is happening with my 09. When I start the car, I get the car on a lift symbol, and the yellow brake warning appears, and remains on. I have checked brake fluid, and all rotors, pads, and sensors were changed just 10,000 miles ago. Any ideas?

Thanks..I have learned the brake sensor wears very early. I see my pads have about 1/3 left. I am hearing if not an electrical problem and brake fluid is fine to run then replace pads/sensors as needed.

Overdue for brake fluid service.. (flush)

I would recommend it, its needed every 2 years, its an internal "clock" set on the dash.

You can reset it manually without having to go to the dealer. -

Thanks so much for the responses. I wondered if it was a fluid flush issue. I have a pressure bleeder. I guess it is time to use it.

Thanks for the response! Now understand The brake front/back warning lights are not coming on it is just the Lift then brake light stays on. You mean to change the brake fluid? Also I see has an "open ticket" for coolant temp sensor..could that be the problem with lift light?

09 MCS with a yellow brake light while driving. I reset everything and it remains? Brake pads are good, I did look at the fronts a few days ago.
Edit- found the problem. Broken sensor on the rear.

I'd like to add that I found the sensors are cheapest through rockauto.com, about $10 each.

just jumper them out ... next to useless anyway. just eyeball the pads when you rotate the tires. no more false alarms.

I actually did jumper the rear (solder and heat shrink). I know the fronts wear faster, but you're right regular tire rotation yields more information. Just wanted to share an affordable source for those who replace them.

We have the rear sensors also if you want the sensor back there and not the jumper mod. Believe there is a year split in 8/2010.

Just when you are changing out the sensors, make sure you press the electrical connection socket all the way in, so the little two prongs make connection. Sometimes if you don't press it all the way it ( till the clips snap in place) will still show the brake pad light. On the jumper or twisting them together also good to use some electrical tape and water tight so they don't corrode and loose the connection.
