BYOP - Bring your own pulley!

We are on again for a pulley party on June 19 in the Triangle area.

I've got the tools... the puller and tensioner tool.
and the experience. (See my install photos)
I've got 3000 miles on my pulley install with no problems. It performed well for the Phil Wick Driving School and Dragon '04.

If you are interested, order your pulley and belt from Helix13.com, or the Alta pulley from your favorite place.

I am willing to help up to 6 people on this day. Two spots are already taken.

I anticipate about 1 1/2 hours per car. My car took a little longer than that, but it was my 1st time.

We should be able to have more than 1 car going at a time, but we will need extra floor jacks to do that.

Please post or PM me to RSVP and for directions

Disclaimer - This may or may not void your warranty. That seems to be dealer and situation dependent.

I am very interested, and looking at purchasing a pulley right now. Though I am having trouble deciding on a pulley.

Helix 13's Pulley - MCS 15% Supercharger Pulley $100.00
MINI Madness' Pulley - $150
Alta pulley from Out Motoring - $124.95

3 pulleys, not all the same.

Edit:
You mention Helix13 and Alta, but what about ProMINI? Looks like the same design and install.

Pebblecrusher,
First and important, the $100 15% from Helix I believe is NOT the 2 piece self-centering. You want the $120 15% version. Much easier to install.

The ProMINI does look identical to what Eric at Helix sells, but more expensive than Helix. I paid $120 for 19% plus belt and shipping from Helix. I would guess the same supplier. All else being equal, I would recoomend Helix... He has been fair and provided much advice during my decision and install.

The Alta I have read has been another popular brand but is not available in 19%.

Hope this helps.

So you are suggesting the clamp on ones? Or does Helix not have the self centering 15% listed? I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. I'll most likely be getting one. I'll confirm very soon, so save me a spot. Looking very good.

The clamp-on is the self-centering one. Self-centering refers to alignment for the belt. His term for clamp refers to the outer pulley squeezing/clamping the tapered inner piece on the shaft.

OK Chris,
I'll take a spot. I think my MINI is ready for it. I'm ordering from Helix today, just need to decide on the reduction amount. I'm going to order a short shifter from them as well and if time allows or all the spots don't get filled, maybe we could do that as well.
I've also got a floor jack, jack stands and a torque wrench I can bring to get more than 1 vehicle going at a time.

The ALTA pulley IS available in 19%. You can also get the ALTA 15% pulley from jscspeed.com for about $110.

I believe Terry Sayther can provide the Gator Grip belt if you go with the ALTA 19% - they're an ALTA distributor.

I'll be ordering my pulley next week. Bonus check comes in then, so I can't order till then. So consider a spot filled.

Gives me a week to figure out which % to get.

Edit:
PM me with some directions. Coming from near Charlotte, but used to live in Raleigh so I am fairly familiar with the roads around there.

Once again... Thanks Chris! The drive home was great! No problems, though I think I felt a bit more vibration from the gas peddle and the RPMS were not as high as I am used to them. Not problems, just differences.

Otherwise things are really cool. I will be getting a hold of Helix just to be sure about that pulley. Probably just cosmetic, but I have to be sure.

Yep,

Thanks Chris for setting this up. It was fun and cool to have so many MINIs being worked on at once. I know I saw a couple of people stopped in the street while driving by at the sight of 5 or 6 MINIs with their hoods up! I love the the extra power, what a great improvement!

Hi Jason/Lee, glad the pulley is performing well.

It was my pleasure to help out... dispite the blow to the head (very minor) .

I guess I had my head under hood so much I did notice the rubberneckers on the street. Cool. An alternaive traffic calming method instead of speed bumps.

Did you ever get a hold of anyone about replacing your tensioner tool? Can't believe that thing broke!

Outmotoring will replace with a better welded version.
