Preparation BMW satellite radio

When I used the VIN decoder I got this line on the build sheet : " Preparation BMW satellite radio ". Now, what exactly, does that mean? Did my Mini originally have Sat radio but the previous owner let the subscription lapse? And that is why it no longer shows it as an option on the "Audio" button menu? And, what must I do to get it back, I assume it is Sirrus,....

Thanks for any input.

Oh, found this enlightening thread when I used different search terms. Hmm, seems a little expensive....

In the next few days I'm going use NCS Expert to change my vehicle order code to hopefully enable this. I'll update this thread to let you know if it worked or not.

So basically the Onyx plugs into the back of the stock Mini radio?

It plugs into the auxiliary socket (if you have one) I'll post a pic tomorrow if I can get to the car before my wife leaves for work.

XM Install

XM1 picture is taken from the driver seat. The radio is attached to a mount that sits in the passenger side cup holder. No attachments other than a pressure fit holds is in place.

XM2 is from the passenger side and you can see the leads/cables are all enclosde in one black wrap. The aux in socket is down under the dash alongside the USB drive. This was the arrangement in my 2010 Clubman as well as what is in my 2013 Cooper Hardtop. The antenna cable is threaded through under the dash/glove box area...under the door seal and along the leading edge of the dash top. It sits on the dash as far forward as it can.

The whole system works well especially when compared to the $500 cost of enabling the system that MINI are charging.

Why not just use the Sat/Nav antenna already in the car? All MINI's have one. THe terminal end is tucked into the space under the passenger seat where the SAT radio module goes. All you need a extender cable...

not!...I have the extender cable...I used it in my 2010 Clubman...the question was about the 2013....I can't find it under the seat of my 2013....I was asking if anyone knew if it was still pre-wired and where the terminal was.....your answer is way to simplistic...makes a number of assumptions without helping in any way.

Did you take the cover off the compartment and look under the Styrofoam?
