So my frd took my car for a spin and he got too excited and shifted too fast into 3rd gear at high rpm, and after a loud grinding sound, now 3rd gear won't hold at all, it feels like neutral.

Anyone happen to have done tranny rebuild? And how much did u have to spend? At dealership?

 

It's about $3000 to replace the clutch and the tranny needs to be removed, so you might as well replace the clutch and third gear as well! It's not looking good for you at all! Sorry about the bad news.

There supposedly isn't any posted manuals for the trans rebuild. So at this point your only hope is replacement. Call Way Motor Works or look around for a wrecker who has a mini trans. I believe the getrag trans is the same even for the r53 but you should research that. This won't be cheap. Hope your friend doesn't flake when he gets the bill.
