R56 What is running?
What is running?
I just purchased a 2008 Cooper S with 30,000 miles and the car is in really good shape as far as I can tell, it looks almost new. I researched the Minis before buying, but I never dreamed that they are so complicated. My other transportation is a Jeep Wrangler and I can honestly say that they are complete opposites when compared.
My first question is that when I turn off the car, I can hear a motor running at the front of the engine on the drivers side. This shuts off after approximately 5 minutes. I searched the forum (and Google) for an answer. Everything thing came back as a problem with the power steering pump or fan as the culprit. From what I have learned, this Cooper has electric steering and no pump or fan for this system. I know it is not the engine cooling fan running as I looked at that. What else runs when the engine is at operating temperature and turned off? Is this a concern that I should address with the dealer or is it normal?
Thanks for any ideas!

Wow, thank you for the quick reply. It had me scared, as I said I usually drive a Wrangler. Jeeps just don't do that

Yes,
Its the little Aux coolant pump, you can check with your MINI dealership ( run your Vin ) if you have the latest updated part as there was a recall a while back on these for certain years. Its runs a little whine when running and shuts off after a couple minutes.

Its #1 in the diagram and located on the driver side near the oil filter housing. Part # 11537630368
Additional Water Pump ( aux pump )

Weird, you are like my twin, I too, just bought a 2008 mini cooper s. My other car is a jeep wrangler. And like you, I heard that little motor running after shutting the car off. I figured it was something to cool the turbo, those things create crazy amounts of heat. Thanks to the forum for answering his (my) question.

I am enjoying this little car, I go outside to look at it when I am not driving. I am still figuring out what everything does, I am just not used to modern technology. The headlights move!
Thanks!

Thanks!
nice rides. Funny thing is, the mini is exactly the same width as the jeep, and if you don't include the spare, almost exactly the same length. The jeep is just like 4 feet taller and weighs a couple thousand pounds more. And they both have two headlights. Round ones!
The other thing they have in common is the obsession that thier owners develop towards them.

My relationship with Jeep Wrangler and MINI is that I traded in my 2007 Wrangler for my 2013 MCS. What a great change that day was for me. I liked my Wrangler, but I love my MINI. It is a kick-*** car!!

But I already knew the answer to that question though...
