No switch for driving lights?

Hi there,

New to MINI but have been a BMW owner since my first car. On all BMWs with driving lights (aka "fog" lights), there's a switch to turn them on or off. I don't see that with our new MINI. They just turn on whenever the headlights are on. Is that normal or am I doorknob?

There should be a set of switches on the lower row of the console.

If your car is equipped with factory fogs the switch is down there, and icon is on the center speedo.

If you want to see if your car was equipped with them from the factory - punch the last 7 of the VIN into here:

http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

It will give you the factory build sheet.

Pretty sure that if there is no switch then you don't have fog lamps...

the lower lamps on minis are top 1/2 parking light, bottom 1/2 optional fogs. If the bottom half doesnt have a lamp in it you've just got parking lamps. I made the same mistake(if thats the case for you)

Ohhhhhh, OK that makes sense. I can see that there is a separation there. So there is not an option to turn the parking lamps on or off I'm gathering.

Yep, there are two different housings. MINI with parking ( position lights ) and MINI with fog light & Position light . If you have the toggle switch in the toggle bank then you have the position light & fog light combo. Turn your parking lights (first click on the stalk) on and the position light , lights up as well as the side marker lights, etc.

Front Fog Light With Position Light You can see the two bulbs. 1/2 upper , 1/2 lower. 63172751295

We now have LEDs for the positions light portion on both light type ( replaces the little wedge bulb on left and right side ) and no bulb out error to worry about. We should be getting these back in stock soon.

Position Only Housing lights example. ( you can see no fog light )

Position light & fog light combo housing ( fog is lower section )

Thanks

Also of note that to the op...the lenses/reflectors on both lights are different...
Fog lights have a broad beam...short throw...
Driving lights have a narrow, long throw beam, like a high beam...
