Universal Garage Door vs. Liftmaster My Q

ARRRRGH!

I'm trying to program my Universal Garage Door Opener on my JCW '13 ...without success. While there is ZERO mention of it in the owner's guide, I've watched the videos and have programmed other garages.

This one is driving me nuts. Is there some strange deal with Liftmaster MyQ openers that makes them non-accepting of the Universal Garage Door opener that comes as an option on the car? Is there some secrete that's not explained elsewhere?

Never had a problem programming a Genie or other common brands!

Any tips appreciated!

I had problems programming my wife's Clubman with our Craftsman opener - and I programed our Toyota with no problems. Since she wanted it to work so bad she sat in her car and fiddeled with it for about half an hour and finally got it working. I'll ask her what her secrete was when she gets home.

Don't have the JCW universal remote, but in my other cars, my Liftmaster opener programming is 2 step: Use the transmitter that came with the opener to "teach" the car remote by pressing and holding the transmitter button and holding the car remote button until it blinks. Then you need to teach the car remote button by pressing the learn button on the garage door opener and quickly pressing and holding the car button until the garage opener light blinks.

If you're doing that and it's still not working, I'd try calling Liftmaster support, they are vey helpful.

How new is your Liftmaster? There is a compatibility problem with some newer models. You may need a repeater:

rkw, It's about a year old. I've followed the instructions KennyR suggested...but can never get the first step to work!

The link I gave says the repeater may be needed for openers manufactured 2011 or later with yellow antenna wire. If that matches your case, try a repeater.

I echo the comments about Liftmaster and the need for a repeater. I recently spoke with a Liftmaster dealer and he informed me that the new door openers most likely will not work with the universal garage door openers in MOST CARS; & a repeater may be necessary.
