Yellow triangle on the tach - prewarning of low fuel?

Today on the way home I heard a ding of some sort but didn't think anything about it. I thought it was something from Waze, which was on my iPhone.

Once I pulled in the garage though, I noticed a yellow "!" triangle was on next to the odometer in the tach.

So I whipped out the owners manual and it said it was a check control message. If I checked it correctly, a big yellow gas pump showed up, which indicated I am getting low on fuel.

Here is the problem though. I still have 3 bars on my gas gauge and the "miles until empty" setting shows 55mi. I though the Mini didn't warn you of low fuel until you hit 30mi.

Am I misreading the manual, or misreading the warning sign? I don't have Mini Connected, so I can only check what the tach shows me.

Brand new car, just under 300mi on it. I see now why many complain about the quirkiness of the Mini systems. The computer isn't that easy to use and the manual is not organized very well.

Low fuel is the reason. The warning comes on at 2 candy corns.. The 2 candy corns go from orange to red. I have seen the red corns light up and then go back to 3 corns, depending on the incline.

Thanks Chini. So I did figure it out. Still, you'd think Mini would come up with a warning light that was more informative and not so dire. I don't know... maybe something simple, that universally conveys the message of low fuel. If only we had a universal symbol displayed in automobiles the world over that would suggest to the driver they needed to get gas soon.

If only...

You must be right at the cusp of 2 candy corns. Once you get down to a solid 2 you'll see it's pretty hard to miss. They'll be bright red.

Must be, because nothing is red. I'll check it out tomorrow. It could be pulling up my drive way at a decent incline got that 3rd one to light up.

It's not the miles that throws the low warning, it's the amount. Depending on how your tank is going the first ding could come at 55-65miles (mpg dependent). The fuel notice pops up and then goes away in the tach. When down to 2 wedges of fuel the color will go from orange to red. When down to the next ding sequence you will be at 1 candy corn (~29-25 miles) and the alert will stay showing a fuel pump in the tach until you hit the BC stalk and make it go away.

Quirky yes, but you will soon figure it out.
