19" summer sticky tires-opinions please?

Hi folks,

I searched for info on 19" tires in the TIRES section and found nothing usable, so I thought I would ask in the forum area where the 19"' tires live!

We will be picking up our CMJCW in the next day or so. We optioned it with the 19" crusher wheels. Those "performance" Pirelli RF tires are going to be GONE as soon as possible and relegated to winter duty.

i am going to get the NM Engineering gunmetal 19" wheels and want some sticky summer tires. I have always been a Michelin Pilot Sport fan.

Are there specific 19" tires that just work really well on the CM? I'm not looking for all season here, but instead something that leans more toward performance but is usable in the rain.

thanks

Jeff

Unfortunately your sizes in 19" extreme performance summer tires are kind of limited. Pilot Supersports are good as well as Dunlop Z2s.

Surprisingly, I found a few belive it or not: Pirelli PZero, Yokohama Advan sport, Michelin Pilot Super sport, Potenza 970, Potenze S-04, Nitto Motivo.

I can't imagine there is anything out there that surpases the Pilot Super Sport, but I just wanted to make sure someone had not found a 19" performance tire that was just head and shoulders above everything else on a CM....

thanks!

Mini-LSE, how long did your 19" OEM Pirelli RFT were good for?

I actually purchased the CM JCW with 18" wheels. I was on the fence with the 19"s and I do think they look better but in Nebraska our roads are terrible. Mine were 18" Bridgestone RFT and I only had 3,000 miles on them. I have them for sale right now if you are interested? The Pilot Super Sports are great tires. I find them a little louder but many people disagree with that. Who knows, it might just be the roads. Overall I am very happy with the switch.

Except the only one of those listed that are actually any good are the Pilot SuperSports. IMHO of course

What size are you looking at specifically?

Ah nothing fancy, OEM size 225/40/19. i am thinking the Super Sports are a very safe bet....I have always had good luck with them on my other cars....

The super sports were very highly rated by both Tire Rack and consumer reports.

Yikes. 19" performance run flats for winter use? Those are going to be a stiff ride over winter pot holes. If they aren't A/S tires, they might actually be dangerous.

Winter pot holes.......in the rust belt midwest? surely you jest :-)

Yep, we are going to give them a try...I have no experience with runflats so we will see how it goes when the weather turns bad...if it's an issue for us, I'll replace them immediately. Trust me, I am highly skeptical, so we are going to monitor this very closely.

I am curious to see if the A4 system will help them with winter driving. Since the differential split is 50/50 front to rear from initial take off from a stop, then moves more to back or front as needed, they might handle Columbus winters ok.

I just want to see for myself before chucking them, you know?

thanks.

A4 will help you go, but won't help you stop. If those are summer tires, you won't have much grip once the temp drops.

i used my cms all4s oem 18" summer rfs until the temp dropped to 29F one morning ... it was dry but cold and i had almost zero traction, accelerating or turning or stopping ... i put my winter tires on that very day
