Has anyone ever had a problem with the coupler that connects the pipe to the turbo? I've been having a problem with getting it to stay attached. The clamp just pushes the pipe off the rubber ring that seems to go in the pipe. I'm still new to the car and would like to get this resolved before it causes to many problems. It came off tonight and the car lose ALL power and died out, but I managed to get it to stay on to get home.

Is the rubber sleeve torn or worn out? Mine is. Unfortunately the rubber sleeve is not something that you can buy from MINI . You have to buy the air tube from the airbox to the turbo inlet.

 

Yeah from the look of it it looks and feels dry rotted hell a chunk of it broke off so I was trying to stay out of boost to get home. I might just say **** it and buy the turbo in let pipe from Alta unless you know of one cheaper.

 

Be careful with the sleeve. If it gets sucked into the impeller and can hurt your turbo.

Its clamped on to where it won't come loose but it just seems like the inlet pipe kinda just slips on to the sleeve and just sits there and I'm pretty sure it should clamp on.

 

Likely contaminated with engine oil from the mist coming from the PCV. Clean it with brake cleaner and re-assemble, shouldn't work it's way off after that.

Don't overtighten the clamp or you'll split the rubber sleeve.

 

Yeah like I said the sleeve looked and felt dry rotted so the outer portion cracked

You are in the Gen 1 forum, I think you meant to post in the Gen 2 w/ the turbo.

I believe you are talking about number 10 in the diagram , the ribbed version. And its cracked down by the turbo?

My bad for posting in the wrong section I've been using my phone and must hit the wrong one by mistake. Anyways I just noticed that the spot where it connects the intake pipe to the rubber coupler is torn slightly, so I'm just saying screw and upgrading the intake pipe with the Alta intake pipe found it relatively cheap.
