TPMS hellp/advice

Hi there, I am new to the forum and have a TPMS question. IT may have been beat to death on here, but bear with me as I didn't find anything via search. Looking for more of a recommendation.

Anyway. I bought my wife a 2010 Clubman and it currently has 16 inch bridge spoke wheels on it. I picked up a set of JCW 18 inch wheels http://www.minipartsmass.com/sfimage...8/1_358198.jpg for cheap, tires have 5000 miles on them, but one does need to be replaced due to running it flat after a nail puncture.

anyway I am replacing the tire with a different one and will need to put TPMS sensors in these wheels that will work like the ones in the bridge spokes. I thought about transferring them over but figured better to get new ones for the new wheels and leave the originals in the other wheels.

Now I am trying to figure out what brand to go with?

A good price point for them?

Can the programming be done through a simple TPMS reset that I can do or is this something that the dealer has to do?

Is there a specific sensor that has to be put in the 18 inch wheels?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

The cheapest source for OEM TPMS sensors that I found a year or so ago when I went shopping for the same was tirerack.com It was a tad under $200 for all 4 sensors.

The sensors are the same regardless of the size of the wheel, but they do vary by the year of your car. Again, call TR and they will sell you the right sensors for your model year.

You can "reset" the TPMS system by yourself via on-board computer's Set/Info menu. Here is how:

The TPMS sensors in your 18" wheels may work just fine on your 2010, especially if they are off of a newer car.

The way I have read and understand it there is no way to turn it off in the car, at least my year. If I was to run the 18's with no sensors we would get the warnings on the dash all the time

It's mostly the latter case.

There has to be a way to turn-off the warning lights in the software. However, it's not exposed for DIY via any of the options available on the OBC. There may be legal complications in the US as well, given the NHTSA rule that all 2008+ model year cars have to have "direct" TPMS sensors enabled:

If you want to keep the original set as a backup or to put winter tires on or sell, then leave the sensors. Spend the $200 and get sensors from tirerack. Alex will send you the correct sensors as they changed frequencies mid 2009 or 2010.
