Replacing Glass on Center Gauge

Is it possible to change just the glass lens of the big gauge (oil and temps) in the center of the dash?

This site offers non-reflective replacement lenses and has installation instructions that hopefully can help you out.

Thanks but I don't think I want to start ripping apart the dash. Doesn't the metal ring come off somehow?

Depending on if you have, the speedometer standrad style or the chrono pack style, both the same shape. The lens is not a separate part that can be bought and replaced OEM MINI.

#1 is the whole Speedometer Standard Style with the plastic lens. The lens is not sold separately. Some people have transplanted lens from other ones into their own.

MINI part number 62109126992 Speedometer Standard Style - Center

&

#5 in the diagram just clips out and then you have the .

Example of the Anthracite Trim Ring part number 51457059168 , the other trim rings ( chrome for your ) are the same shape for the standard center speedo, they just have a different finish.

Is it cracked or broken, might be able to polish fine scratches out, but if it really scratched might need a donor transplant or new one?

Thanks

It's really scratched. At the lower end, it is actually a small hole. If you look closely, you can see it running from over the icon of the oil can down to the 40 of the oil temperature.

How can I tell if I'm able to replace just the ring?

Yes, you have the "chrono pack" speedo. Part number 62109126997

With a hole and a scratch that bad, there is not cosmetic fix. You can try to transplant the lens from a donor speedo or buy a new one and have it installed and re coded by the MINI dealership.

Thanks

Thanks for your help and sorry for being so obtuse, but:
  1. Can I order 51457059168 as a replacement?
  2. Can I just slip something (like a knife) behind the trim ring to pop it off without taking anything else apart?
Again, thanks for all the help.

You can order the cluster as a replacement "chrono pack" speedo. Part number 62109126997 , is brand new non coded, and then It will need coded at a MINI dealership to your vehicle.

You can pop the trim off, just when prying it back as you can see the gray trim surround has tab placed around the interior sides. Try working around under the trim.

Here is the back of the trim.

Thanks

If you replace the plastic lens...IMO...get the kit...do them all...they are non-reflexive... Nice up date. But you must disassemble the guage to do it. No simple pop off the cover to change it.

If you're going to replace the lens, get the better antireflective coated ones like these:
I put them in my speedo and tach dials and I like them. They're vendors here on NAM.
