New MC40 JCW owner here with a few questions.

Hello all, I have a few questions about my recent purchase.

Where is the production number on the car so I can see which of the 1000 I have?

My car did not come with the original MC40 magnets, where can I get them?

When I got the car, the air conditioning did not work. I gased it up with R-134a and the AC works, however when I am idling the AC is not cold. Any tips?

I also noticed that the passenger door does not unlock electronically. I can lock it remotely, physically, and with the switch on the center console. But I can only unlock it after I have tried to unlock it electronically with the remote or the switch and then by pulling on the door handle to make it open. Is there a fix for this?

Where is a good place to get a replacement driver's side brake light cover?

I have the two fog lights that go on the front grille, is there somewhere I can get a guide of where/how they are suppose to be mounted? Also, I don't think the original screws were included, where can I find them?

I found an integrated iPod cable in the dash, although it does not work. Did this come factory? Any ideas on how to fix it?

What is the little vent up on the ceiling in front of the rear-view mirror?

This car needs a center arm rest

I was considering buying the expensive (Bentley?) service manual for this car, is it worth it or does someone know where I can get one used or cheaper?

Lastly, is there a mechanic that anyone could recommend for someone in the SC area?

Thank you all in advance for the help!!

Welcome,

Great rare find. I can help you with most of the MC40 pieces. The original magnet parts are NLA from MINI. Here are some of the most popular missing parts to help you.

But there is the update 37 decal. #2 in diagram

On the driver door when locked you have to pull twice to open it. If its still does not work its most likely the lock mechanism that is bad or sticking.

I will offer help on the things I know.

AC: Sounds like the fan isnt running, to move air when the car isnt in motion. Check that.

Lock: What? A little confusing. The door will only unlock if you hit the unlock button and then use the door handle, in that order?

Brake light: Is the cover broken? Brake lights can be round relatively inexpensively, and are a 5 minute swap. Much easier than removing and replacing the cover. Check the Marketplace here.

Vent up top: I believe that is where, on other models, a bluetooth microphone was placed, but I could be wrong.

Armrest: available for purchase, check Outmotoring.com.

Bentley: Again, head on over to the Marketplace, they are up fairly often.

Mechanic: Where in SC are you? In fact, did you just buy the MC40 that was on Craigslist, in the Simpsonville area? If so, you're geographically pretty darn close, and have a few good options. Let me know where you're at and I'll help you out.

And if you are indeed local: Welcome! Check out Upstate Minis on Facebook and Upstateminis.com, we have a meeting coming up in the beginning of July as well some summer drives. Hope that helps!

Ipod kit - Depend on what is wrong. Some of the parts are separate. Possible it was disconnected and left in the car. Mounted in the glove box cable and then goes to the controller box then to the back of the radio. When the ipod is connected , select mode and it should come up in the menu.

The ceiling vent is for the early Bluetooth kit that was separately installed. It was an option on MINI after the factory. Plain vent like the pic with no mic behind it = no Bluetooth kit.

Production number came on the plaque that should be in the center console for the "#" of 1000. It might have been put with the papers in the glove box. But it came to the dealership with that plaque down in the center console.

Taillight lens is the housing all one unit. Rear driver side.

Tail Light W/ Bulbs - Driver (Left)

Center armrest options:

Some people like the ease of install for the Euro Flip top armrest , installs down by the seat rails.

Hope that answers most of your questions. Thanks

Wow, great response. Thank you for the information. I will look into purchasing some of the things that you listed.

About the door lock mechanism:

I can lock both doors with the remote and the switch on the center console.

I can unlock the driver door with the remote and the switch on the center console.

When I try to unlock the passenger door with the remote or the switch on the center console, nothing happens. I have to manually unlock it by pulling on the passenger interior door handle.

Is that more clear?

About the fog lights, I feel like I am missing many of the parts in that picture. But I do not have the assembly or parts in front of me at the moment. I will report back with more information when I return home.

Thanks again!

"When I try to unlock the passenger door with the remote or the switch on the center console, nothing happens. I have to manually unlock it by pulling on the passenger interior door handle."

When you hit the button twice, which unlocks the passenger side and still does not work after that = bad lock mechanism.

Thanks , post up some pics when you can of the MC40 and hope you can find the original plaque. You cannot get them anymore from MINI.

Thanks

Yep, sounds like the lock mechanism is squirrelly.

You snagged a really cool car. I always loved the MC40, especially that carbon fiber dash and red leather interior. Very very nice. I'm at work now, but I will post a link for you later to the facebook page.

As for mechanics: DDMWorks is local and awesome. They unfortunately just had a tech leave to work at BMW and are a little shorthanded at the moment, so they might not be able to get you in quickly. Brent Prevatte is a former Century Mini tech who does work at home now, quite a few club members use him. Great guy. I think he is in Simpsonville. Also, Ivan Bonnet at B&L Auto has been mentioned and was said to be good, but I can't personally say I am familiar with his work. I am a huge fan of DDMWorks and their service/owners, they just got dealt a bad hand as far as shop help at the moment. I would be VERY hesitant about getting work done at the dealer here in town.

Where are you located? I might know of someone who formerly worked at DDM who might be able to give your car a once over and tell you if theres any issues. He is my personal source of Mini knowledge and has done most of the work on my car.
