R50/53 Easiest/Quickest way to zip tie BPV shut R53?
Easiest/Quickest way to zip tie BPV shut R53?
I want to check to see if my R53's BPV is working correctly by zip tying it shut. What is the easiest way to do this? I could really use pictures too if anyone is willing...
I saw a how-to on removing the BPV to replace it but that included about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of work for a not super mechanically inclined person like myself..
I just want to zip tie it shut, not replace it (yet!).

a few weeks ago I had the 15% pulley + reduced belt put on with a CAI and new plugs and coils and wires and oil and such. The car screamed fast! just screamed it. Then I took it on a 800 mile trip to the tail of the dragon and hooned it to death. Ever since that trip I have had sluggish acceleration under 3K. Above 3K the car rockets in all gears. My clutch isn't slipping and my supercharger still screams so I am guessing I am losing boost.
I have 130K on a 2003 S and I think my spring in my BPV is either loosing tension or broken or the BPV isn't sealing well enough closed.

Hopefully some more experienced NAMers chime in here, but based on your driving after the pulley/belt install and tune up, I'm wondering if the belt may be a problem. Could also be one of a few sensors, or oil buildup.
I'm not gonna be one of those "experts" that overdiagnose a simple problem, but it's just some other things to think about, especially if you have access to any diagnostic tools or a good mechanic. For all the raving about bad BPVs (in the early years!), I'm not so sure they ended up being bad as much as all that, especially considering your BPV hasn't failed already, after 130k miles.
Check this thread - a mechanic says that a bad BPV will reduce boost all across the powerband, not just low RPMs: Sluggish acceleration R53

Here is the Bypass valve.

You could loop it around adjustment stop and the metal arm, i don't know if it would be enough to hold it with a zip tie.
I would also check the hose line for leaks and the bottom seal.
That gives you a good picture of it.

My JCW MCS is like that...pretty doggy under 3000, but over that...it really takes off.
