No, it checks for both. I guess technically you could just hardwire it so it thinks the sensor is still good if you really don't want a sensor at all. It's just checking continuity on the circuit, so it would be really easy to bypass altogether.
can you explain what you mean by no sensors .... they were bypassed or removed?
The op has a gen1 car...sensor is bypassed by just reconnecting the cut wire on the sensor. ...and zip tying it out of the way. If either circuit is open...you get a light. So you can bypass one or both...no issues....usually the seneor wire is left in place...and the wires twisted together....resistance if tge wire is important.
