Sunroof won't shut when it's hot. 2007 Cooper S

Check it out...

It closes fine when it cools down.

Thoughts?

I went through a month of this, except mine would not open all the way.
They greased and greased but as soon as it warmed up, it would not work.

approx. 2700 bucks later, new tracks and motor.

There is no single parts to replace. They have to replace whole thing.

I did buy extended, so my expense was 800 bucks.

I had the same issue as nutsofamily, when sitting in the sun one day it needed me to help it open with the push of my finger. It only happened once, never had any issues since even in hot weather. I'll replace mine when it becomes more problematic, I could use 800 dollars for my Borla S-Type Exhaust!

This has been a pretty widely known complaint. If you do a search, you'll find people reporting similar behavior going all the way back with the R56.

For me, it won't open hot (unless I give it a little assistance with my hand). There's a bulletin that recommends cleaning and greasing the tracks (and maybe checking the alignment of components).

Regardless, I haven't seen a permanent solution. I think it's going to continue to recur (but if anyone has found a permanent fix, please correct me).

Sounds like a typical BMW sunroof. Might be worth a try and remove the glass and clean it then regrease.

I spoke to the MINI service manager about this. Apparently the sunroof is such a tight fit that heat makes it expand just enough to make the motor strain enough to cut out like if someone had their arm up there and that if I wait until the car is cool that the sunroof will begin to start operating properly again.

I find this to be consistent my experience. While it wish this wasn't an issue, I'm so glad I don't have to drop the $$$ to repair it.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I opted not to order a sunroof.

I love my sunroof and would order it again. I also prefer it to be too tight that not tight enough. Ha!

Check the TSB, there is a simple glass adjustment to fix this.

The roof expands when hot, this is the issue. I believe its the same issue as when the roof wont open when hot.

Before ordering my Mini I asked a friend who is a tech at a local Mini dealer, he said, yes, its an issue, but the adjustment fixes the issue. (So I ordered a sunroof)

That is correct, but if the roof is still problematic on heat (open and close with circuit protection) then a complete track replacement has to be done.

I went through 1 month back and forth with this (adjustment) and lubing.

Never fixed it.

Be careful. If u stress the motor out and the track IS needing to be replaced you will fry your motor.

Watch the bills add up then.....
