R50/53 Software update question
Software update question
Hi guys would just like to know if this is possible or the same in the dealership. I have a friend ( who has a shop) that has a gt1 computer thingy that he uses for his shop (obviously). He told me that he can update the software of my car. So, i was just wondering if it is possible to update my software (ecu/dme) to a jcw tune/software? I read that the dealership in the US can update/upgrade your stock tune to a jcw one. Apparently, i asked the dealership in our country about that and they dont have any idea what im talking about hehe... Thanks
is it safe to ask him to do this . connect his gt1 or computer to my car, choose the option in updating the software, choose the 2005-2006 jcw software and then update? then i'm all set to have the jcw tune/software in my car? ( the reason i'm asking this because i might be the one who will do this because he doesn't know if it work) heheh...
The GT1 will do the job, so as long as your update file is good it should be no problem, BUT....I don't know if there's anything special involved in making the link to your ECU, not familiar with how the GT1 works.
You should be able to, and want to read, copy & save your current tune file anyway, this should tell you if things are at least headed in the right direction, hopefully someone else here knows the GT1 process for you.

hehe... the price difference is huge. i might be able to do it on my own for 85 dollars. or have a tune here for 1200 dollars. i want to have a real tune after i complete everything (headers and hi flow cat)
Yeah, I hear you.
But one thing that I always try to think about when working on my car: "Do it right or do it twice."
I've almost always regretted the cheap/quick fix.
Edit: If you can save your original settings somehow, it probably can't hurt to try the JCW tune.

Yeah, I tend to agree. If you can find a cheap way to use that tune, it'll probably be closer to what you're running.
But I don't think it'll be as good as a proper tune, of course. Hopefully you'll see a nice difference when you finish putting on the bolt-ons and get it to a shop.
