Need some help asap
I'm replacing the steering pump everything is off except the return hose that is on the pump. I have tried all the tricks i know to get a hose off. The factory clamp it completely off I don't have enough room to get a pair of pliers to try and break the hose grip by spinning it. I was able to get a screwdriver part way up but still will not come off the top flange. I would like to know it there is enough play in the hose to be able to split the hose with a razor and cut off about 3/4 inch off the bottom and still be able to have enough hose to put it on the new pump? Any input would be appreciated. The car is in the garage half torn apart.
I can't remember explicitly but I contemplated the same when doing mine.
I tugged and pulled and finally my friend was able to put enough arm up there to push it off. If you are really stuck pull the hose off the bottom of the reservoir up top..it might give you enough room to get a better grip on the hose if you can pull it down a little.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to pull it off the top but that one would not come off either, no room I have big hands. I ended cutting it off from the top and was able to pull the pump out with the hose still attached. Even after putting a slit in it with a razor still had to use a screwdriver to get it off the fitting. I guess after 10 years of being on the hoses get molded to the fitting. when the pump was on the ground the hose was still hard to get off. I will just replace the hose. I think I will notch the hole on the bottom bracket before I put the new pump in. It would make it a lot eaiser to take out again if I needed to.
Yeah I guess replacing the hose isn't the end of the world...I think that particular hose is about $40-50.
I've heard of people notching the bracket..considered it but decided since I was able to get everything out without performing this I would just leave it be. If I had cut it-would have been about 5 minutes with a dremel tool.
Good luck..and since you are probably thinking it... I don't know if you could just buy a normal hose from a parts store and just move the heat shielding over or not.. I don't see why not but don't quote me on it.

I thought about just putting the heat shield on a new hose but I tried to take it off the old one and really did not want to come off. I was thinking of just replacing both hoses since its all apart already. An ounce of prevention and all that stuff. although I may try the heat shield again tomorrow I would like to get it fixed so I can get it back on the road. I will be slotting the bottom bolt hole for the futrue while its apart. The pump is held in by the two bolts that go through the frame.
