It won't work with iPhone 5 because of the lightning connector. It doesn't pass the video signal. I believe BMW is releasing a new adapter soon that may fix this. You can thank apple for being @@)(-!?!! And not sharing the tech sooner.
As for Office - doesn't work for me. All I get is my phone contacts and nothing else...

I've gotten video and iPhone mirroring to work with Connected on a jailbroken iPhone 4 and haven't even bothered trying with the iPhone 5. I've heard that the Lightning connector doesn't have a pin out for video and as a result the Lightning to the various video adapters all have additional chips in them to provide Airplay support. I'd be stunned if BMW added that support to the upcoming cable.

working here: 2013 coupe w/tech mini connected/nav
on my galaxy note 2, i have that paired via BT and had to go back and enable the office functions in BT for it and once i did, my text messages are now viewable on the display and in the office app

iphone 4s was able to also do this along w/calendar items and emails, again had to pair via bt and go back and then enable office feature on the paired bt device. i'll get a more specific guide up later today
Update: no love on the text messages on iOS for me on my 2013 coupe. my android galaxy note 2 shows them just fine but iPhone 4S w/iOS 6.1.3 does not. wish BMW/Mini would get feature parity on both iOS and Android.
boo!! why does mini connected only work on iOS but you can't see text message on iOS but you can on BB or Android? i'm emailing mini connected support

Let me know if you need any additional help with this. Have you tried any of the videos on aboutyourmini.com not sure if they have one that explains this, but they might.
If you go into the bluetooth screen and then to the screen where you pair a new phone you need to push the joy stick to the right once (this should bring up your options menu) then go to configure bluetooth. You will need to make sure that the "office" box is selecte and you will need to make sure it is configured correctly under configure phone as well.

ok some clarifications on mini connected and iOS devices:
1. iPhones and iPads WILL NOT SHOW text messages or emails. It will show calendar and address book but that is all.
2. Android devices that support it can show text messagse but not emails. I am not able to access my calendar items though but i would have to verify i have my work calendar setup on my device
3. I will be testing my Blackberry Z10 tonight and i have a good feeling that it will basically do ALL of the supported office features like Calendar, Messages (email and text) since they have been aroudn for a while and also support such protocols in Bluetooth.
so more updates a coming!!

Enable it on phone itself make sure you have notifications on and for me banner style had to chosen.
yes, i'm accessing my text messages that way and you can also do it via the Office > then hit left on nav **** and then choose Messages

however Blackberry 10 says it can do it but does not do it.
wish Mini had a feature parity chart that showed what features work on what devices, etc.
I open Office, hit the left nav **** and only see Contacts. Nothing else...
my galaxy note 2 easily connects to my mini and shows me my txt messages and prev messages; works pretty well. however emails never showed up and i had my corp email setup w/the native email app.
hope that helps! btw, i have a phone of nearly every OS and am working on creating a feature parity list of my own of what works w/iOS, Android, Blackberry OS10, Windows Phone 8.

oh yea! someone in this thread mentioned it and i verified it enabled the messages on my iPhone 4S, be sure that both messages and mail are enabled in your iPhone's Notifcation Center. I believe it needs to be set to enabled, also enable the "view in lockscreen" and also banner alerts. once i did that on my iphone 4s, i saw the messages option on my mini. i do not have any messages in the app but have not tested sending a new txt/email with it working.
Ok - I think I've got it figured out... I now can view unread Messages and Mail on the Connected's Screen. Here's what I've done, although honestly I'm not sure exactly which of these steps resolved it... As a reminder I have an iPhone5 with IOS 6.1.3.
First I updated the MINI Connected Software in the car by downloading from www.mini.com/connectivity.
Un-Paired the phone (Select "Forget Device" on iPhone)
Under Notifications, ensured both Messages and Mail are set to View in Lock Screen.
Paired the phone to the car again. On the iPhone opened the options for the bluetooth connection to the MINI and ensured Show Notifications was set to On. Waited a few seconds and launched Office. Now additional Office functions appear when clicking the joystick to the left.
