ALTA JCW Downpipe Back exhaust

Hi,

I wanted to know if the ALTA JCW downpipe back exhaust would fit a Cooper S ?

I thought both models shared similar geometry for the exhaust and they would be inter-compatible but for some reason the regular S is not listed on ALTA's compatibile list for this exhaust.

There's a local guy selling one for dirt cheap and i'd buy it if it's a straight fit.

Any useful info will be appreciated !

Alta/JCW? You can mount an Alta DP to a JCW exhaust if that is what you are asking.

No. Alta now offers two exhaust systems. One catback and one Downpipe Back. But the downpipe back is supposedly compatible with JCWs only.

YES - The JCW downpipe back exhaust is compatible with an MCS.....BUT - They can't say that because the 2nd unmonitored cat is removed from the MCS when you install the JCW Downpipe Back system....The JCW uses only the main cat located in the downpipe to do all the emissions work....and as far as I know, the JCW & MCS share the same factory downpipe. I have had the Alta JCW Downpipe exhaust on my 2009 MCS for almost 1.5 years now...with absolutely no emissions issues. It's a fantastic system, great sound, great quality...and they have a great price on it here with a 10% off coupon you can use as well:

BTW 3" on a non-modified, uprated turbo, or tune MINI is over kill and a waste of your money. Stick with a 2.5" exhaust.

there's a local guy selling it for dirt cheap ... my mcs is currently enginewise stock but not forever.

and I'm not an expert but from what i've been reading turbo engines don't rely on backpressure and actually benefit from least exhaust restriction as possible.

Anyways this is another topic that i'm sure has been discussed a thousand times.

Your right but the N14 doesn't flow enough to warrant a 3".

Hey ScottG- I just bought the downpipe back exhaust, haven't installed yet. I'm debating replacing the resonator with a straight pipe, to give it more sound, but from your post, you're saying it sounds great. Is it noticeably louder than your stock exhaust was? I don't have a resonator on my stock set-up now, and I love how it sounds. So I'm hesitant to installed this exhaust with the resonator.

Richie,

I would go ahead and install the exhaust with the Alta resonator....if you find it too quiet (which I don't think you will), it's easy to remove. The resonator is a separate can with the Alta V band connectors on either side. It can be removed easily and a straight pipe TIG welded in its place.

Thanks Scott, I might as well try that. Another question - is there a noticeable difference in the pops/burbles? Without the resonator on my car, it sounds amazing...how does it sound with your set up?

Rich,

The popping is very nice with the Alta System.....the pop is always more pronounced when you remove the very restrictive OEM resonator, muffler or 2nd Cat....if u had one.....and let the car breathe with limited back pressure. Who did u buy the Alta system from?

Thanks Scott. I originally was going to just order from Alta direct, but I found it on CustomCarsCentral for a lower price + free ground shipping. I couldn't pass it up.
