changing to electric water pump

anyone ever remove the PTO and water pump form there SC, and sap in a electric pump?

the sprintex does the same. so if you were to just take off the mechanical water pump off the PTO and put a block off plate on the hole then wire up a pump we should be good right?

dont have to worry about worn gears, get a little power back form not having to turn a pump. so do you guys think any aftermarket pump would work? just need to put it to a constant power source when the car turns on.

In theory, it should be straightforward. You just need to make sure the pump pushes enough GPM to keep the engine cool.

I would recommend wiring it to through a relay that is attached to the fuel pump circuit. Any time the fuel pump is running, the water pump is running too.

Also, you may not gain as much HP as you think. There's no free lunch. The extra electrical load will make it slightly harder for the engine to spin the alternator.

If you decide to try this PM me, I'll can let you know how ours are wired, they work off a circuit that keeps them running until the ECU shuts down. (5 min. after shut off, on with the key)

Don't know, I'll have to see what model they're using for the kit, I can tell you that it works like a charm, engine temp stays dead on the thermostat rating even through last summers brutality, plus it's great to be able to change, fill & bleed the coolant without running the motor until you need the thermostat to open.

Hey Blwn, I've been wondering exactly the same thing as Greek. This way, we wouldn't have to worry about overheating when those gears go.

Finally had time to look into this, the W/P that the Sprintex kit uses is the Davies-Craig EWP-80,

http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Electr...s-content.aspx

As for thr wiring, here's the link for the Sprintex Instalation .pdf, the part you're looking for is on page 31.
Hope this helps.

I wondered if that would work or not, here's a link to the page instead of the direct download.

Upgrading to a m62 supercharger and need to install an electric water pump.

I am overhauling a 2003 r53 and upgrading the stock supercharger to a m62 which doesn't have a built in water pump. I'm going for the Davies EWP 80 because it's small size. The link to Sprintex is dead, can you show me which circuit to hook it up to?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi GreekDrifter91
Hi do you have to keep the old thermostat in it? When you install the electric water pump.?

Davies Craig pumps are rubbish. They will strand you when they quit. Luckily when mine went (with *MAYBE* 400 miles on it), I was 2 miles from home and just took it nice and easy. If I didn't notice the temp gauge climbing, it could have been disasterous.

That's unfortunate. I've had mine going for almost 10k. Was it a bad connection? I had to run a different pigtail on mine. The one it came with failed immediately. You can see it in my build thread

I've had issues with the Davies Craig as well, but mine have never failed, just developed leaks at the main shaft. I'm still using them, but only because I haven't taken the time to figure out a replacement and alternative mounting solution. (I basically just fabbed a bracket to mimic the intake tube that is no longer there).

Here's the wiring instructions though, it will work with any W/P you choose.
