wheel swap from old version to new version

Hi
I need to swap the wheel but i bought the 04 mini cooper wheels which do not have a tpms. They use indirect way to check a pressure. But my mini has to Have tpms sensor. I asked maintenence guy and he said if i switch these two, it will have warning sign. Is therr any to solve ths problem? Or is it possible to turn off the warning Sign?

Either live with the warning or install tpms senors in the wheels.

What year is your car? I have a set of TPMS sensors from a 2007 that I keep meaning to list in the marketplace.

my mini is '10, I have tpms, but im wodering does '04 wheels fit with my tpms?
The mechanic in mini center said, it won't fit into '04 wheels since the tire pressure sensor system is different from '04 and '10.
'10 has direct, but '04 use indirect system.
anyone knows about it?

Yes the R53s used a indirect tpms which means the wheels that came on those cars had no sensors. The tire pressure was inferred based on comparing each individual tires rotation to the others using the ABS sensor.

That doesn't really matter however because the sensors used in the current direct tpms can be mounted to almost any wheel.

So tpm sensor will fit in r53s wheel?
If it does i'll install tpms into R53s wheel, i really do not want to see a warning sign.

And what if i put indirect tpms into after market wheel instead of direct tpms?

You should read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire-pr...#Indirect_TPMS

It'll fit, but it won't do anything. There is no receiver in an 04 for the later tpms system in an 04, because it uses a different system than the newest minis.

Have you read what Creeve wrote? In the first generation mini, from 02 to 06, the tire pressure is monitored by the wheel speed sensors. It measures how fast the wheel spins and if 1 wheel spins faster than the others, the computer assumes that the tire pressure is low and turns on the light on your dashboard.

Therefore it does not matter whether you actually have a sensor in the wheel or not, because your 04 mini does not do anything with it. It will not turn the light on based on having a sensor or not.

Sounds like the OP has NEWER mini, and he BOUGHT rims from an 2004....
The 2004 used a computer to monitors wheel rotations and abs sensors to monitor for a flat...
The gen2 mini's ( and some gen1 mini's from 2007+, ie cabrio's) use a sensor mounted IN THE RIM...typically mounted to the interior of the valve stems....and uses a lirrle radio to send a signal to a reciver in the car ....
One note..mini uses s few different transmitters...so buy the RIGHT ONE FOR YOUR YEAR CAR....the beru sensors that are oem may/may not fit due to placements of the valves stems on YOUR 2004 RIMS....WITHOUT KNOWING WHICH rims you bought, NOBODY can give you an accurate answer....but the best way to tell is to simply testfit the sensors to the rims....

If you choose to mount rims without the proper tppms on you car, there is no way to turn off the warning....

This is what I was saying. Guess I wasn't clear enough. Thanks for clearing it up.

One other tidbit of info, not related to the OPs question. Many 2007 R56 (gen2 Minis) like mine use indirect tpms and have no sensors in the wheels. 2007 is when the government mandate for the new tpms kicked in so its a mushy year as far as what cars have which system.
