Mini Connected and the Ipod Touch

I've searched for a good thread on what exactly the Ipod Touch can do with the mini connected apps. So far I haven't found a thread that talks about it fully.

What can you do with the Ipod touch and mini connected if you do not have a wi fi hotspot enabled phone? I know things like pandora etc won't work but what does?

Does mission control? , google maps send to car? etc. I'm wondering if there is a good reason to upgrade my nano to a touch for use with mini connected. Thanks a head of time for the input.

I assume that if I did have a wi fi hotspot that it can do everything that the iphone could do.

Hi -

The following will work without an internet/wi fi connection:

Driving Excitement
Minimalism Analyzer
Mission Control

The following require either a direct internet connection or a wifi hotspot which in turn is open to the net:

Web Radio
Dynamic Music
Google Send to Car
Google Local Search
Twitter/Facebook
4Square
News
Calendar

In all, the most useful features of MiNi Connected require no internet connection.

And you are correct - a wifi hotspot on a smartphone gives full functionality. I use an iPod touch Gen 4 and my hotspot is an Android Galaxy S3. I'm thinking of doing a post on the whole set-up I have - works real well, plus no need to plug/unplug an iPhone into that awkward Y-cable every time I step in and out of the car (the iPod Touch is essentially a permanent part of the car's electronics since I rarely take it out). My smartphone can stay in my pocket and when I start the car, everything just pairs up - the Android Bluetooth plays well with the iPod Touch hot-spotted to the Android - seamless integration. And they both charge up during use.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. It's exactly the information I was looking for. Unless I can talk my work into upgrading my blackberry bold I won't have a hotspot anytime soon. So knowing that the three main apps I was interested in don't reguire it helps alot.

Hi. I'm new. Just got a 2013 S Countryman w/MINI Connected. Can someone explain the following three a little better? Is it worth spending $200 on an iPod Touch or will I use them once and never again? Searched for screenshots and videos, but having trouble identifying these specific apps.

Driving Excitement (like a game, pts for fun but safe driving?)
Minimalism Analyzer (fishbowl?)
Mission Control (custom soundtrack based on driving?)

Thanks in advance!

Personally I find it worth it for the music interface and the google send to car alone.

Dynamic Music gives you the custom soundtrack based on driving. I have yet to try it out.

Mission Control I enjoy, gives me a good chuckle everyday, even though it gets a bit repetitive. It basically says hi to you when you start the car. It will give a status on fuel, may comment on the weather, tell you when you've driven another 5 hundred miles.Fasten your seatbelt.Throw out random mini trivia. Things like that. It's fun for what it is.

The analyzer rates your driving and whether you can drive greener etc.... I used it a couple of times but it didn't really excite me much.

Driving excitement is pretty close to same thing but rather then points for economic driving, you get points for driving fun. You can collect Experience Points for accelerating, braking, changing gear and steering. I used it only a couple times as well.

Anyways, it really is going to be you that determines if it's worth it.
