iPhone 5 suddenly not recognized as USB connection in my mini?!

So I've been using my iPhone 5 with the Mini usb iPod adapter and the lightning adapter with no problems... Today, while plugged in and listening to music my iPhone just shut off and restarted.... Plugged it back in, and now it's not being recognized by the mini....?!?!? It's charging, but not recognizing as a USB connection. Anyone have this problem?

I don't have an Iphone but I know that the MINI system for bluetooth has issues with dropping and or not recognizing my phone sometimes. You may nned to delete it from your MINI and then "connect it" again with the phone. That is what I have t do when it stops recognizing my phone, then all works again. Stupid I know but it is a crap system that BMW puts in the MINI. The system in my Ford truck runs circles around MINI BT.

I have, in fact, experienced that issue—but it was primarily (and frequently) with a non-BMW iPod/iPhone adapter cable purchase via Amazon.com. (Bad idea, and I still don't grok what the issues were before I finally just returned it. There's apparently some sort of intelligence of some kind in the cable.)

The solution for me seemed to be to completely reset the iPhone (press and hold the menu button + power button until it shuts-off, wait until you see the Apple logo, then release), AS WELL AS to turn the radio completely off, and even the car itself off, then reconnect everything and try again. What a PITA.

I've had this happen only one time ever with the official BMW/MINI adapter cable, and the solution was the same. In the end, I still don't know if it was the MINI's radio head-end, the iPhone, or some bizarro combination of both, but for me, anyway, it seemed a complete restart on both took care of it.

For the record, it's not happened in a long time with the official cable.

I have had this happen several times recently with my iPhone 4 in my 2011 JCW. The only thing that seems to fix it is to do the reset mentioned in the previous post. I would love to find a way to eliminate this problem.

I had it happening all the time with the BMW cable -- which was going on 4 years old. Ordered a $20 cheapie from Amazon and have had zero trouble.

I hypothesize the trouble is with connections in the cable getting flakey as it ages. By the time there are several adapters in series betwixt phone and radio, small surprise if a marginal connection becomes outright bad!

I have had this problem with the factory cable and the cheapo cable from Amazon on both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 but my phones don't reset . I finally found a quick fix without hard reset . I simply double click the home button and then close the iPod music app icon.
After that the boost stereo shows the iPod icon and works as normal. This only happens every few months .
