Trunk Power Outlet?

I bought an 02 MCS. In the trunk area is a hole on the left side and a wire connection. So I went to the Mini dealer today and they sold me an illuminated ring and 12v socket that is supposed to go there according to their diagram. However, the illuminated ring will not fit into the hole without some modifications, but the 12v socket does connect and works correctly. Can anybody tell me how this part is supposes to fit into the hole? I'm just looking to put the car back into the original condition. I have searched the net for info, but no luck.

Thanks!

I had a broken orange ring below the toggle switch bank, so I swapped in the one from the trunk... I had the same experience, it just does not fit. I ended up using a thin screwdriver to pry the hole a little wider so I could pop the assembly in at an angle. I'm sure this isn't the ideal solution, but it's in there now.

Could be worse. You could be like me– 2003 was the only year that they removed the trunk 12V outlet.

Thanks for the idea. I took a razor knife and shaved down the "ears" on the illuminated ring. I think the "ears" are for the bulb, which doesn't appear to be used in the trunk. Tomorrow I'll see if it will fit into the hole.

That's correct. There is no wiring for the bulb in the trunk power outlet.

The bulb mount (items 5 and 6) is separate from the socket body.

I retro-fitted trunk (boot to me) power in my 03 R50. I use it to power the sub or lights or air pump or car fridge, depending.

Put the ring in the hole first, then push the socket into the ring. That's how I did it.

Unfortunately, I put the ring and socket together to see how they fit thinking I could get them back apart... They don't seem to want to come apart now...

My 06 R53 does not have one either.

Thanks guys for your help!
I was able to fit the factory illuminated ring (after shaving a bit of the ears off) and socket into the factory hole and plug into the factory wiring harness connection. Even though I had snapped the two pieces together already it just popped right into the hole with no difficulty. Of course the illuminated ring is not lit and is not supposed to be. Also, the fuse for this (12 volt power outlet) factory harness connection is F31 located at the drivers foot rest. I hope this info helps someone else in the future.

Thanks again!
