Quick question ... I know that the key fob stores information on what maintenance items are required ... is this information also accessible through OBD or only through the key fob?

It is actually stored and calculated on the car. The fob simply contains a subset of that information. So yes, the information is available through OBD and offcourse through the instrument cluster.

The fob is updated with information each time you use it in the car.
