Trip Mileage on tachometer display removed on new models?
Trip Mileage on tachometer display removed on new models?
Got my radio replaced on my 2011 R56 because it bit the dust and ... no more trip mileage!? I should have seen it coming on my loaner countryman it was like that but...still.
Why would MINI do this to us. I can't come up with any reason that makes sense.
For those of you without this great functionality this is what it looked like previously:

Why would replacing the radio take this display away? Did you scroll through the options by using the blinker stalk ****? Maybe it just got reset? Wow, that stinks if it really is gone.
Yeah I agree! I think it's in the sw version. I have asked the dealer about putting it to the way yours previously was, but they act all like, no we can't do that.
PS: Stay tuned. I called the Service Manager, instead of a Service advisor at my local to find out whats the deal on that. She knew exactly what I was talking about as her MINI also displays trip odo at all times. She is looking into it and will call me back with more info.

Took me a minute to work through what was meant here...owning a 2012 MCS, I can choose the trip meter display to show, or the outside temp, avg MPG, etc.
Ah, but some (earlier?) models could show the trip meter *simultaneously* with the odo. Didn't know what I was missing; now I see.

I normally set the display in the tach to time then set the radio display to computer. This shows avg consumption, avg speed, mileage to empty, and outside temperature on the radio display. There is still some room there so they should add the trip odometer.

Now the current speed is stuck in the top and the trip and time isn't displayed, its much less useful. The trade off is you get the intermittant wiper icon display (woo-hoo).
I didn't know what I was missing either in my 2013.

I hadn't ever tried this...but did this morning. As you say, there's room for more...like a trip odo! Then, of course, the software-guy that's still in me would think: well, gee, it wouldn't be *that* hard to add some info from OBD-II like ScanGauge does, let the driver toggle which ones get displayed (choose instant mpg vs. average, e.g.). Or, change to a "Sport" set when Sport is pressed: water temp, air intake temp, others instead of the normal ones.
I thought I was going crazy, had a software update last week and couldn't figure out how to get my trip odo back. I was looking through the manual about a hundred times, glad I'm not the only one.
Seems really stupid to take something away like that, add options don't remove them :(

Just had to get my battery replaced on my 2011 Cooper S Clubman. The dealership told me that would have to reprogram the car. Noticed a few differences when I got the car back, the "hidden" trip odometer being the main one. I guess they reprogrammed the car with the updated software. I wonder what else has changed?
When switching from my '09 Convertible to my '12 Roadster, I too found the disappearing trip meter annoying as I use it daily for business journeys.
One thing I have found is that a single press on the trip meter reset button makes the trip meter display - it only resets the trip if you press it while the trip is being displayed.
Of course this may be of no use to you if Merkan and Yurpeen Minis are coded differently, which could well happen.

They must have changed in in 09 then. All four of our MINIs up to 08 always showed the trip milage.
My tach shows total mileage, trip mileage, and speed. My speedo shows avg mpg, avg. speed, range, and outside temperature after I select menu and comp. If I was going to complain it would be about lack of water temperature and oil pressure. 2014, nav. by portable Garmin.
All this time, I just thought I needed to somehow change the settings on my 2013 R56 in order to get the trip odometer to display in that blank space to the right of the regular odometer.
Just yesterday, the service manager at my local dealer confirmed it's due to the software they use to update the cars.....the latest version does away with that display. I never had it on mine to begin with, but am annoyed that I won't have that convenience. It would help gauge distance when following directions or on road trips since the main odo has no tenths of a mile digit. grrrrr
