Small squeak solved!

Hi All,

Abby developed a new, small squeak with the snow tires on her that I had a heck of a time running down. The noise was coming from just behind the passenger seat deep in the "B" pillar. I thought it may have been the seat belt or part of the top mechanism, I just couldn't nail it down... Then I tried opening the door on a bit of road that was making the squeak sing and it appeared to go away. Then I remembered the same sort of thing on my Beetle... A quick squirt of silicone spray to both door latches and the noise was gone for good! Probably all that washing and a bit of fine winder road dust. Anyway, all better!

Happy Holidays All,

Franny

Happy Holiday's Franny. Thanks for the information.

Does anyone have a noise/squeak when going over relatively small but sharp bumps when the top is down? In my car, the noise/squeak sounds like the whole top moves. I took it to the dealer a while back, they lubricated the joints but it didn't fix the issue.

Wow great tip, I have a squeak back there too. Couldn't figure out what it was. I'll take a look in the morning.

Thanks,

Andy

I've got a couple vibration/rattles coming from me that I haven't tracked down yet. I'm going to start by looking at the little door into the boot. Maybe it's the latch handle or something.

Squeaks from rear of R59

Happy Holidays all!

I had a squeak that was driving my wife nuts from the rear of my R59S and it turned out to be an adjustment of the trunk/boot lid. The lid was actually riding on the rear bumper cover causing the squeak.

There are cushions or bumpers mounted on the inside of the lid about half way between the curved part and lowest edge of the lid. By twisting them down or counter clockwise, it moves the lid up or away from the rear bumper cover allowing for a gap between the lid and cover.

As a side note, if you have a RATTLE from the trunk are, check to see if there are factory installed small rubber cushions on a bracket that is between the hinges about 8" behind the trunk opening. If the cushions are there, secure them with a small amount of glue such as rubber cement or silicone adhesive. If yours are missing, a small piece of rubber hose should do the trick again using some glue to secure the mounting bracket.

Happy Motoring!

Thanks for the post, Judscoop. I think I might have the rattle you mentioned at the end of your post. Someone ought to invent a vibrating lift that cars could be put on so we can get out and find these things. I'd invest in that! It's hard to do it when you're going 70 on a rough road!
