Wheel cleaning/brake dust

I know if I dig deep enough I will find it, but in the mean time I am looking for a good wheel cleaning solution for break dust clean up that isn't too...scrubby. I broke my back a few months ago and while I don't mind hunching down and scrubbing the spokes...my back sure does. Product or technique tips to save the back?

Sonax

We've found the Sonax wheel cleaner to be by far the best wheel cleaner for brake dust. I hate cleaning my wheels but with this stuff I just spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes and then wash it off. I don't have to even wipe it down unless I really let them go for a few months before cleaning, but I still didn't have to scrub them, just simply wipe them down.

FYI we also have a trial size if you want to test it out.

I just bought a bottle of Sonax direct from showcarsupplies.com today.

The owner is also a sponsor on here (OctaneGuy) and offers an everyday discount code: MINI11NAM

The Sonax mentioned above is good stuff. You can also buy one of the long wand wheel cleaning brushes as well to save you from having to bend over too much if you have to scrub the spokes.

A cheap homemade method to clean the barrels is using one of those foam toilet bowl cleaners that are made of strips of foam bunched together. Preferably a new one that has not actually seen use in a toilet.

I tape a paint stir stick onto the end with packing tape to make it longer. Gets between the spokes and lets you clean up the barrels really well without killing yourself or removing the wheels.

Any idea how much the discount code is worth at OctaneGuy?

change your pads and you won't have to clean nearly as often or have such a mess when you do . . .

buy the pads, bring the car by and I'll hang 'em for free

No matter what you clean them with . try this to help.
I use "wax as you dry" spray on the car every time i wash.
I spray a bit on my chamois and use that to dry and put a bit of the product on the wheels ... It really helps fight the build up in the first place.

Wheel Wax is also good product at coating a clean wheel and making it easier to clean the wheel. The stock pads make large amounts of dust and changing to a different pad makes a huge improvement at keeping the wheels clean.

Sonax is fine for black wheels. Think about it like this... whether the wheels are painted silver or black doesn't change anything, you still have painted wheels with a clear coat over the colored paint.
