Anyone running 205/40-17 tires?
Hi guys, Found a decent second set of wheels I was planning on picking up for the summer. 17in is where I want to be. I believe I saw a chart with the different stock wheel diameters with different tires/rim sizes, but can't seem to find it.
The set I am looking at has 40s which I am not sure if that would be good or bad. Anyone run 40s before?
Thanks

I would certainly prefer the stock 205/45 but there is a good deal on a set of wheels that have 40s on them. Was just curious if anyone ran them. I know the wheels are 17x7. I'll check out the pictures, thanks Erik
I've been running 215 x 45 x 17 tires since it was new. The 205's have around a 7 mph speedometer error, thanks to Europe in trying to slow cars down. With the 215's I have about a 1 mph error. I've had this checked by Iowa Highway Patrol radar that they use.
As for going 205 x 40, I think that 225 would work better for you and I've heard of guys running them on hatch's with no problems. Get with TireRack, they are good help.

is this:
On street cars, it should have an overall diameter that is within ±3% of the factory specification.
The ±3% variation is recommended for street cars in order to maintain accurate speed data
going into the computer, thus keeping odometer and speedometer changes negligible.
While a ±3% diameter increase or reduction in tire diameter may sound very limiting,
in most cases it allows approximately a ±3/4" diameter change.
Assuming 24.00" (609.6mm) as the factory specification for overall diameter, any of the following tire sizes may be appropriate:

I have 205 40 17's General Exclaims on my car - the speedometer does read off. You'll have a bit more fender gap, and you wouldn't think it would make a big difference, but your car will sit a bit lower. I can just fit the toe of my shoe under the front rubber lip under the bumper. Everyone asks me if I have springs on it haha..
Discount Tire Direct has a calcuator. Top right under info center and then click on tire size calculator. Running these against stock will mean a diference. You don't say what your stock size is but 205/40/17 is not a direct replacement for any stock size tire that Mini uses. This calculator will provide diameter, circumference, width, side wall height and very important.....mph equivalent against the stock tire size.
