Broken windshield

So I was coming home from work today and some kid decided it would be a good idea to throw a rock at my windshield. Windshield is toasted but so is his ***. Feel bad for the kids dad since he's paying the bill for a new windshield for me! Safe lite quoted me $540 for a new windshield. Hopefully the kid learned his lesson.

Don't forget the two black plactic A-pillar covers, there about 60 bucks a piece, they are not designed to be pulled off.
Sometimes you can put them back on but they generally crack,if your going to try and save them try to make the plastic warm, they will flex better that way and pull off better, use an old hair dryer...still know guarantee..

One I put back on there had a crack in it and ended up flying off on me on the highway just a bit over 80 and still had to replace it anyway.

Most if not all the plastic clips that hold it on, broke off and they get stuck in the frame of the car,you have to kinda cut them up or push them threw with needle nose plyers.

I believe the new covers come with all the new plastic clips you need, I did end up having to use some double sided tape to keep part of it secure enought to keep it from rattling in the wind.

If I remember right I think I got the a-pillar covers from Moss Mini.com for around 40 bucks but then again it might have been eBay?

Yeah if I need the new a pillars ill get them from the dealership which is near where I'm getting the windshield replaced( a safe lite location) I'm not doing it myself because I am not paying for it so whatever it costs to do it right is what the person will be paying for. Feel bad for the kids dad, especially if there's another $120 tacked ontop of the $540

Me too but I'm glad I'm getting a new windshield for free! I had a couple chips that safe lite used resin on before but I would much rather a new windshield which I'm getting now

when SAFELITE has replaced my windshield - and they have on various cars for over 30 years including multiple MINI replacements - they always replaced any trim parts broken, including by them during the job. Sometimes they have had to come back a second day because they broke something they did not expect to be a problem, but they always completed the job to my satisfaction. One time I called with a complaint and they sent a new person the next day who removed the "new" glass and trim and replaced EVERYTHING again. . . no extra charge - sorry for the inconvenience .. even tho on my Honda Element they once did the entire job 3 times b4 I was satisfied (wind noise issue).

no, I do NOT work for them .... just a VERY happy customer

I'm glad the kid was caught and you were able to notify the parent. Reminds me of a time I was parking two cars outside and all the valve stem covers disappeared (I had some fancy metal ones). A few weeks after the disappearance there was a knock at the door and there was a kid who admitted taking them, and had a bag of covers and asked if I could find mine and take them back! Mom was there, but hanging back.

Seems a neighbor had caught him in the process and marched him home AND THEN mom and dad decided his punishment would be to go house to house. Those parents went up 150% in my opinion that day. I doubt the kid did this or anything like it again (meaning he's probably a serial killer but I digress)

*****
I feel sorry for dad and his checkbook. I'd know that my insurance would cover this 100% - no deductible - and perhaps work with dad for a suitable solution. I recognize you may not have coverage but just say this is what I would do ... having adult kids who got into these sort of messes as SMALL kids.

{there was just a Leave It To Beaver episode on TV Land that applies!!!!!!! Kid works in my yard for an hour a day, after school, for a week. That Ward Cleaver was the bomb and I lust for June!!!!!}

^^ yeah safe lite does a great job. I got a rock chip and they sealed it with resin. It came apart ad I made another appointment to have it fixed for free, tomorrow. Looks like I won't e needing that appointment anymore since its getting replaced on Monday haha. Pretty sure the kid crapped himself when I did a j turn real quick in the middle of the street and pulled up to him and told him to call his parents haha

Let's hope dad makes the kid pay for everything. That's the only way he will really learn from this.

Exactly like that. My insurance would cover it but why would I claim that on my insurance when somebody else did it?
