Navigation & Audio Amp install fail! Anyone read a schematic?
Amp install fail! Anyone read a schematic?
I just put the finishing touches (so I thought) on a Sony XA-4S amp in my '09 JCW. I plugged the seats back in and connected the battery, put in the fob... nothing. No sound. Not a bump. Radio's on, but nothing from the speakers.
I checked and doubled checked all the connections during the install. There are two places that I can think of that might be the cause of the trouble. Here's the first:

I used the front speaker wires at the X9331 and routed them as front speaker level inputs into the amp. I did not connect anything to the rear inputs. From the schematic above, there is a solid arrow connecting the front inputs to the rears. I don't know what this means. I thought it was an internal jumper of some kind. Also, the schematic is for line inputs and nothing for speaker level inputs that I used is shown.
Could not connecting to the rear speaker level inputs be causing no amp output? Seems strange to me if it is.
Second potential cause; I used the wires on the male side, or top of the X9331, for inputs. Is that correct or did I use the wrong side of the connector?
This is really demoralizing. I'm really stuck on what to try next. Suggestions?

Add photo big black wire x15
I would also want to know if your amp needed a remote power on connection? Other threads mention using the "big black wire" Pin 1 from the black x15 connector that held the x9331 in place. I also have a similar issue of not hearing anything and I wonder if my x15 Tap technique or wire is at issue. Perhaps someone can provide "how to test an amp install" details that would help us?

Yup, I indeed tapped the #1 pin on the X15 for power on using the same Posi Tap that you show. My wire from the X15 isn't as heavy gauge as in your pic, but more like 18 or 20 gauge. The amp has hokey LEDs that come on, so I know it's getting some power and my VOM reads almost 12V between the remote on lug and the ground.
Well, there you go. I did have the in/out polarity switched at the X9331 connector. I reversed the wiring and presto..tunes!
As Churchill said, "Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key"
Thanks Winston, I feel a little better.
BTW, at least on a Sony XA-4S, you do need input on all four channels if you want four channels out.
Hope someone finds this useful.

I figured out quite a lot just now by taking my remote blue wire and disconnecting it from the Posi-tap.
I was not sure if I had crimped the wire some where along the way. So i took the bare end and touched it to the positive battery power in line of the amp. Presto, the amp came on and sound played through the front speakers. That means my blue wire is ok. The issue is at the posi-tap connection.
The needle inside the posi-tap may not have been touching the internal wire of the x15 pin 1. Also possible is that the blue wire bare end was not far enough into the posi-tap to make a proper connection.
Too late to test options now, but at least my amp works and i will be able to get soundto the front speakers... as soon asi figure out how to improve that x15 and Posi-tap connection...if not something else will have to work. ?
