R50/53 Brake lights and turn signal not working...
Brake lights and turn signal not working...
So here's what is not working:
Both brake lights
Both front turn signal lights
Left side marker turn signal light
Left rear turn signal light
The car is a 2004 Mini S JCW. I have checked the bulbs and they are good. Could it be a fuse? I checked the following fuses in the left kick panel and they are fine:
F4: General Module (BC1)
F6: Brake lights; clutch switch; EWS
F8: Turn signal; General Module (BC1)
Not sure if this is related or not, but I just recently changed my battery. When it died I had a friend help me jump it, but the car still didn't start. However when I took off the jumper cables they were very hot and burned my hand. Bought a new battery and everything is good now, but now I have the problem with the lights. Please help! TIA.

The fuses you listed seem to be just for the switches that control those lights, not the lights themselves. Their values are way too small (5A) for those lights anyway.
Check fuses FL8 and FL12 in the fusebox in the engine compartment.

The BC1 module directly drives all of those lights. The worst case scenario (because of replacement cost) is that the BC1 has failed. By any chance, does your car have the "rear fog mod", a wire jumper that causes the rear fog (top bulb in the taillight) to function as an extra brake light? There have been some BC1 failures reported in the forum, and this mod is thought to be a contributing factor. It's also possible that your incident with jumping the battery might have affected the BC1.
No I don't have the rear fog mod done to my car. Man I hope it's not my BC1. Is there a way to diagnose if it is in fact the BC1? Or am I pretty much left with taking my car to the dealership and taking it from the behind?

Light testing 101 - pull bulb from socket, inspect visually, toss over left shoulder, insert new bulb into socket. Basic electronics teacher failed 10 people on that test. That's where I'd start. I've seen many a bulb look good and not work. Bulbs are cheap, try those first. Then look elsewhere in the system
