Almost torque steered into another car

So my car has always had a problem with torque steer under hard acceleration, it pulls to the right.

Today I was at a light, left arm resting on the window hand outside, right hand on my MINI connected dial. Light changed green, I started to take off before I could get my left hand back on the wheel, I didn't take off hard but my wheel made 3/4 turn to my right and I started to head right towards the car next to me. I was able to straighten it out before I hit anyone but it was pretty close.

I know I shouldn't drive with no hands on the wheel but are there anyways to minimize this torque steer? I already have the torque arm insert installed.

My car/option/mod specs are in my sig.

Thanks!

Something does not sound right. In a straight line I have very little torque steer. Tire pressures okay both left and right? Possibly check the alignment?

I just got new tires and wheels last weekend. I got them mounted and balanced so the pressure should be ok. In a straight line I can let go of the wheel and the car doesn't drift at all. Do you think the dealer would do anything about alignment under my warranty?

This did happen one other time with my old wheels/tires but I was trying to take off fast and actually peeled out a little.

Torque steer comes with front wheel drive. You know it's there so...
Like 'Dr. Dr., every time I go like this it hurts' 'Well, don't go like thiat'.
Single engine take off power always requires a touch of left rudder to allow for torque or you wind up running off the runway. It's all just part of package and you have to allow for it.

Tourqe steer is directly related to hp production, all other things being equal.
Some later mini's DO have a software update, a electronic lsd that may limit this, but uses brakes to strighten it out...so fo most is a nogo...with a high HP car, NEVER TAKE MORE THAN ONE HAND OFF THE WHEEL...DO NOT TEXT!!

Maybe the road was uneven/badly paved?

Certainly a consideration, I'd say. Even my underpowered R50 torque steers on uneven surfaces if I hammer it too hard from a stop, with the Sprint Booster on "RED."

And keep your hands on the wheel!

I was actually on the one road in LA that is newly paved so it was nice, flat, and smooth.

I guess like others have said, it's just a characteristic of the car and how it delivers power. Probably not anything that can be fixed. I suppose I'll just have to keep my hands on the wheel

Less foot and more arm....

sounds like there was something on the road that caught the wheel....

and I dont think that the Torque Arm insert is going to have any effect on torque steer, it looks like it works to prevent the motor from twisting on the mounts.... not the cause of torque steer (imo) (( upon further investigation it appears that it can contribute to torque steer.... my bad.... but seems like it would be more of an issue on older cars))

A limited slip diff might help (?)... but as has been said, torque steer is a result of the drive wheels and the steering being the same ....

I get very little torque steer on my 12 MCS JCW with sport suspension and LSD ... but I cant say what it would do under hard acceleration without holding the wheel ....

I seem to be having a similar issue and I have 170 miles on mine. Not a problem usually but feels somewhat scary when I switch gears driving spiritedly. I am coming from a history of only owning rwd cars. I'm gonna try that torque arm you speak of.

last I checked there is minimal torque steer on the mini's due to the axles being equal length, confusing to think you had such violent torque steer.

Are the wheels and tires the same size and offset as stock? If there is an increase in offset or tire width you can increase the torque steer effect.

I know that the R53/R50 series had equal length axles, but I am not sure about the newer R56 series.
