No rear fog light but...(leds)

So for some reason I didnt get the rear fog lights...
So enter some red led strips....
They are hidden in the gab between the bumper and the rear hatch, and since they are at the very back edge you only see a red glow up close, from farther back you get the full effect of the led's.... wired them in to the rear side marker lights.....

not the best pics, I'll get my real camera out and see if I can get some better pics...

should be a nice improvement on those nice rainy nights

I really like the effect at night, any chance we could get some day shots to see how you have it set up?

It looks like the face of a happy whale, actually reminds me of those phones kids have that have a string and you pull it it and it follows you and rings.

I have a 1st gen, and have been thinking of this. or popping out the tails and putting LEDs around the side of them.

What do you have those LEDs wired too?

I've been thinking of wiring LED strips under the car to the side markers (the one on each corner) so I'd have under glows. Only thing is that under glows are played out and would label me a ricer.

I have my tail lights blacked out, so I thought maybe I'll just get red ones on the back to light up the ground for added safety.... still debating.

Is it possible to wire up LED's to my tail lights so that they come on with the brakes, flash with the signals?

Underglow is also illegal to have on while driving. As for wiring them up to your brake lights, it's both possible and easy. You just have to tap the strip's power wire into the wire for the running light.

In Ontario, I'm told, you can have any light as long as it doesn't obstruct another drivers view, and it does not flash.

Ah, didn't see that you were from Canada. Not sure about y'alls legislation, but here in the States underglow is deemed a distraction for other drivers on the road and is thus banned for use while driving. You're welcome to have it on while parked at shows and the like, but you'll get a ticket for driving with it on.

Here are a few more (better) pics....
It was pretty easy to wire them up, I took out the bumper screw on the corner and a little push down will give you an opening to get the wire into the wheel well, there was plenty of wire on the strips so I ran them both to one side and wired them into the side marker...nice and clean

I don't see how underglows are distracting, unless they're flashing, or other drivers are 7 years old and have ADHD. If anything underglows would be safer because you'll stick out more when you're passing through someone's blind spot. Or are stopped sitting and the guy behind you is trying to program his GPS - also illegal, but everyone does it. I was rear ended by a guy this spring and that was his excuse.
-this is just my opinion, who knows what logic law makers use, but I think they're safe.

Good stuff with the LED strips, but a small one on the cut out of the exhaust to light up the JCW tips at night too.

 I didn't write the legislation, I just follow it to prevent getting hassled by the cops.

Cool.

I just looked at mine and there's not much gap between the hatch and the bumper - maybe 1/8 inch. Enough to let the light out, I guess.

What kind of strips? where did you get 'em?

You got me thinkin' ......

lol. im actually about to do underbody led strips. have several amber colored led strips to run all around the car. theyll be wired to work with the rear fog switch (as my rear fog is now tied into running lights).

call me rice if you must, but i think itll be awesome

im also fixin to put a couple strips of White led strips under the car, and wire those to the door lights, so when the doors are opened, the bottom of the car lights up white. should be neat for when you close the doors and walk away in the dark; itll be like the mini is a giant flashlight! (or something :P)

as for Where to get em, Ebay of course! just search for led strip...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...strip&_sacat=0

they even have ones with remote controls, so you can change colors! very cheap, good quality, super easy to install, very bright.

I got those from Plasmaglow ....
However I think that I like the ones from superbrightled.com better... I got some white ones for the front that came out more blue than I wanted... so I have some new white ones coming that will hopefully be a nice bright white...
