New MINI & cargo hatch conversion for our dog
New MINI & cargo hatch conversion for our dog
Our new MINI wasn't home for more than 24 hours before my husband built this hatch cover for the comfort of our dog. I was going to buy one - but this took him less than an hour to do: He cut & notched a piece of board just a tad smaller than the recessed cargo area. He added four legs (note you need the front, notched legs a bit higher to make the cargo area completely flat.) Then he wrapped a black towel over the top of the board and slid it into place. It is easy to move in and out & wash the towel after it gets sandy from a run on the beach!
I love our new MINI, innovative husband and happy dog!

This is great I always said I need something like this for when I am delivering cakes to people. I am always worried that I am going to spill the cake of the back of the seat lol =) Thanks for sharing maybe I can figure out how I can make one now =D
Yes - and I needed a flat space for my "open house" signs on Sunday and today I'm picking up our daughter who is coming in from Dublin with luggage. (She'll be thrilled with the surprise of our new MINI!)
If you want to make one, here is a closer photo and measurements, though with different board and cover thicknesses, you will need to modify. (Maybe a rubber mat would be best to stop slippage of your cakes?)
The board is just over 1/2 thick and measures 35 3/8 x 16 inches. He notched both ends toward the front of the car: 2 1/4 " x 1 1/4" (the longer notch cut runs front to back, and the shorter notch runs the width of the car.) The "back" legs measure 5 1/4 " tall and the "front" legs are about 5 3/4 ". He rounded the corners with sanding so it wouldn't scratch/cut the cloth of the car. Good old high school wood-shop class!

WaLa...Boot Box from Outmotoring.com!!

I had initially bought one from the Dealer, it had a very flimsy top...don't know about Outmotorings though.
