Jon,
You are one lucky guy! I am so jealous! I am looking to buy a house next summer after I graduate, and it's GOT to have a garage. I miss tinkering. And just think of all the mods you can do while you are in there. Yup, I'm jealous all right! I had to rebuild my first car, an '83 VW Rabbit GL. I haven't had a garage to work in since high school.
Best of luck! I'll be watching your progress with great interest!

Quite the little project there Dr.Jon. Giving CPR to that little MINI, to bring her back to life.
Looks like eBay is your new best friend with the purchase of the car, and finding all the parts. Good on ya, and good luck with the restore.
Have you named her yet, or is Crispy MINI it?
Cheers,

Simple recipe for enjoyment: Take 1 new MINI. Add 6 gears. Drop in 1 supercharger. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style. And finally add 1 MadMan. Bake pavement and tires to taste. Recipe produces 1 MINI Cooper'S' and full satisfaction. Motor On!!

Jon,
I don't know if you've thought this far ahead or not, but I'm curious about the crashworthiness of the car once the work is done. Seeing as the entire car from the engine forward is basically being disassembled and reassembled without the supervision of certified MINI mechanics, would an insurance company look at this car differently? I have no idea where the airbag sensors are, but if they're fried or missing, isn't that something that would have to be fixed by a dealer?
Also, I'm assuming the car is a 5-speed? I can snap a bunch of photos of my car's engine bay and e-mail them to you if that would be helpful. Good luck!!!

the airbag sensors were sheilded from the heat and look fine to me. Are there only 2 in the front?

What a great experience it is to rebuild a car and bring it back to life. It will become your car, you will have intimate knowlwdge of its workings and all that you have done to it. Keep it forever.
