I have had the car about six days. When I test drove it, I put it through the paces. Drove it home, washed it and went to bed. Next day, this horrible noise started screaming from the right front wheel well. It sounds much worse inside the car. The p/o said he had a leaking p/s hose and replaced a clamp that fixed the issue. I checked the fluid, and its red. I sucked out as much as I could with a turkey baster, and added the pentosin. Then I found this excruciatingly painful noise:
Anyways, as I turn the wheel the entire strut tube turns and makes this nasty rubber squeaking noise. Do I need to replace the strut, or is there a part somewhere rubbing I cannot see?
Check to see whether you have a broker strut tower mount. It could be moving in place due to have something broken. Maybe the spring seat is also broken.
Have not been able to check it out yet with all the other issues that have developed, but its definitely an obnoxious sound. Only sitting still while turning the wheel from lock to lock, and low speed turns.
After I installed my new Koni FSD shocks, and IE shock tower mounts....I had the EXACT same noise you are getting. It was only on the drivers side, and it drove me nuts. It would only do it during very low speed turns, and while sitting still. I jacked the car up and inspected everything, and I couldn't find what the heck was making the noise. I ended up squirting a little wd-40 up to the top of the strut.....put the car back down on the ground, and the noise went away and has never came back.
It's definitely something rubber rubbing on something metal...maybe one of the upper spring cushions? After I oiled it....no more sound.
Try it and see what happens....just be careful not to get any wd-40 on your rotors, and wipe up any excess on your spring after you are done.
So the cause is rubber twisting, what's the solution? I just had my lower control arm bushings replaced, and now when I turn the wheel there are certain positions that cause a similar sound. Not for the whole rotation, but you'll hear it twice.
I've got the exact noise on both my 05 S and my wife's 06 S. What is funny it's on the same side (passenger). From what I've read just today, replacing the blown-out strut mount should do the trick. Debating on whether to replace struts too....
Iqraceworks, did you spray up from under the fender, or down from Under the hood, or both? Thanks
Mine did it with brand new IE mounts, and brand new shocks.
I sprayed a little WD-40 up from the bottom side onto where the spring presses up inside the wheel well. Be careful not to drip any down onto your brake components. That seemed to fix my noise problem I had.....sounded just like the video.
My front top passenger side mount was cracked and sounds worse than your video. Replacing both mounts and struts and I'll keep you posted.
I have this issue after replacing both strut mounts with Moog brand but i also added tower plates. Could the Moog mounts be crappily made and causing this? I've heard bad things about Moog so wondering.
Also, hear the bellow/boot can be the issue.
Also, read that if an allen wrench isn't used to keep the bolt immobile while tightening the strut bolt, it can cause damage by torquing the guts of the strut. (use a split socket)
Hi rockjohny
Let me know how you solved this (if you solved this).
Same issue here. Replaced my high performance worn out multi-bearing strut mounts with OEM Moog. Then the new mounts sounded like this. I then replaced the entire strut assemblies... and BOTH strut mounts to another OEM brand. Same problem.
I'm gonna try the WD40 method... will be funny if that's the trick. If not... will purchase some aftermarket high price mounts again.
I had the same issue after I replaced strut mounts. Ended up replacing the upper an lower spring rubber an had no further issues.
me too... except the entire replacement of strut and mount (after doing just Moog mounts) caused the same result. I think there is just a lot of crap aftermarket "OEM" stuff out there.
Moog mounts are pretty problem prone, mostly because they like to collapse within a month or two of installation. I'd replace them with some loemforder mounts from FCP euro and see how that goes. The good news is FCP has the lifetime replacement guarantee so if they go bad, you can replace them for what it costs to ship them back to them.
These were KYB after a 400 miles trip. Newly installed.
The second pic is a Bipmac mount from Amazon. They lasted about 200 miles.
I replaced them with lemfeder mount. 15k on them. No issues.
I sold that car some years ago and hard to remember exactly but i think in winter they always got somewhat noisy but i also installed a strut tower brace and think that helped reduce the noise...if i remember right. That also greatly improved the handling. Those towers flex a LOT. Hey you guys, a heads up - we're in for some very rough times in the near future, much prophecy being fulfilled now. "Search for Jehovah while he may yet be found." - i might get kicked off here for this but that's OK - just remember, Jehovah is bringing man's corrupt system down 1/3 at a time and the West is the first 1/3. He's also the One to call on for wisdom and help - his Kingdom is going to rock and well worth wrapping your head around - i can be found as johnrossStar online
